Why Don't We See More High Current Electronics?
Ooops, Al, you're correct. Didn't see the 4-ohm bit . . . blasted eyes!
Why Don't We See More High Current Electronics?
But to comment on the thread . . . this is some REALLY well-trodden ground. Please see:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1258580057I have two main points of contention with Atmasphere's "white paper" to which he frequently links. T...
Why Don't We See More High Current Electronics?
Ooooo . . . I've been summoned, like Notorious B.I.G.!http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/155324/the-ghost-of-biggieActually Al, you're correct save a small arithmetic error. A "pure voltage source" amplifier that clips at 100W into 8 ohms of co...
Line Singal Bootster
Hi, sorry I misunderstood your original post. Glad you found a solution, but it stll seems odd to me that such a thing would be required, and there may be some side-effects to operating the EQ in such a manner. The Beomaster phono preamp gives a s...
Digital to Digital decoder?
I seem to recall from a conversation with one of the engineers at Audio Precision that Dolby is really idiosyncratic on some of the types of digital encoding/decoding and input/output capabilities that they will allow manufacturers to have on thei...

IIRC the Beogram 5000, 5005, and 5500 do NOT have an internal phono preamp, so that would be your problem. The 6500 was the first of this series where the preamp was absent from the Beomaster, and built into the turntable instead.
Explain Amp classes & how effects sound?
Yes Stanwal, I did mean the power amp - my dyslexia! Still, what was (is) meant by 'current-dumping'?"Current-dumping" is Peter Walker's terminology, it refers to the power side of what is essentially a feedforward amplifier. In this topology, the...
Explain Amp classes & how effects sound?
Most transistor amplifiers do operate pretty close to class B; at low power levels most of the power comes from the driver transistors rather than the outputs. But in order to keep the amplifier from making significant distortion (notch and crosso...
CARTRIDGE SETUP
The Geo-Disc is pretty useless for a significant percentage of tonearms out there ... including the Linn.Linn's own protractor disc, as part of the Speedchecker, works very well for their arms -- allowing you to verify the alignment on both the nu...
What is “warmth” and how do you get it?
all of the discussion regarding harmonics is useful and instructive, but does not address the question of whether warmth is a form of coloration. unfortunately, no one has definitively spoken on this subject.Well, er, if "warmth" is imparted upon ...
What is “warmth” and how do you get it?
What is particularly interesting to me is your discussion of different amplitudes of the harmonics having such a big effect. I am starting to come around, but it would be good to find some info on that in particular. That would certainly seem to b...
Phase inverting problem
Tbg - dunno how many or which players invert polarity. I dunno why either, but I don't think they do it on purpose. Maybe they are like recording engineers and just donl;t think about it. There are three reasons why a consumer audio product would ...
Phase inverting problem
Some equipment uses a modification of the original balanced standard, in which pin 2 is non-inverting. Sometime in the 70s or 80s, European equipment went to pin 3 non-inverting. This practice has shown up in some Japanese equipment as well. This ...
Phase inverting problem
Actually, the question of absolute phase is a very big consideration in recording and mastering.First, every professional microphone specifies its wiring polarity referred to sound-pressure polarity - this is crucial for any kind of consistency in...
