$500 USB cable
People assign analog attributes to digital cables. Warmer, colder, brighter etc. I just wonder which bits are added, changed, or entirely missed when the sound turns warmer or brighter etc.? If bits are missed or added it will likely cause nasty n...
Too Much Power?
Yes, it is usually underpower that damages speakers.  Clipping produces a lot of high frequency energy that damages tweeters.  Some amps, including mine (class D Icepower) won't even clip (soft clipping).  Perhaps Hypex is the same way.  In additi...
The awful truth about CDs, do they have the same shelve life as LP's ?
How many people do you know that have A/D converters, just in case?
Solid core Versus Stranded Speaker cables
Strands don’t have to be 26awg since 18awg copper has 100% skin depth at 20kHz, as I mentioned in previous post. When they are stranded insulated then you will still have skin effect since they are in magnetic field of each other. That’s why they ...
The awful truth about CDs, do they have the same shelve life as LP's ?
jeffstar, if your gear is directed/optimized toward vinyl then most likely you don't even have D/A converter, much less A/D.  In addition nobody would spend money to buy decent A/D converter to digitize all their LPs predicting ahead of time that ...
Separate conductors for separate frequency ranges in cables
Blang11 - sorry for my long rant on speaker cables.  Perhaps my brain refused to even admit word "power" in your post  :)  Most of linear power supplies draw current in narrow spikes.  These current spikes of very high amplitude contain a lot of h...
Separate conductors for separate frequency ranges in cables
Many (including AQ) claim that skin effect is audible in audio. Perhaps because of that they use hollow conductor for the tweeter, In my opinion it would be sufficient to use wire gauge 18 (100% skin depth at 20kHz in copper), but there might be s...
Hum!
If your amp has ground plug it means it was designed to have it. DO NOT use cheater plug or cut ground wire - it is dangerous. It might be ground loop or something injecting noise, but it can also be filtering caps in power supply getting old (dry...

Hard drives fail fast (in comparison) and the new solid state drives are no better and some worse than the spinning platter.Backup drives, that are not in use (unpowered), almost never fail. I keep two backups (drives are cheap), in addition to ma...

Have you tried to rip them?  Perhaps it is possible to recover them.Sometimes the issue is the sun shinning on particular place on CD rack.
Need Help Ripping My CD Collection
It depends.  Some people claim that it makes difference for S/Pdif while it should make none for networking (Wi-Fi, Ethernet etc.).  I use traditional external HD and it is very quiet.
The awful truth about CDs, do they have the same shelve life as LP's ?
The main difference between LP and CD longevity to me, is that damaged or worn LP cannot be repaired, while less than perfect CD can be recovered/renewed by ripping software and recorded onto CD-R.Longevity of CD-R depends on the photosensitive dy...
