Damping factor or watts?
Icepower is class D - has high power, high DF and is not astronomically expensive (to answer your question). I stated previously what ideal DF should be and I feel I should explain it more. In ideal world high DF would be great - but in real life ...
Damping factor or watts?
DF is limited by the inductor in series with the woofer to about 100. DF of an amp should be few times higher. Very high DF=4000 (Icepower) doesn't make much difference - at least at low frequencies. Low output impedance at higher frequencies help...
Sending audio cables to Europe
Once I had to send package to Chile. I checked cheapest UPS and FEDEX - very expensive. USPS tends to get stolen (same with some European countries) unless it is "USPS Express Mail" - handled much better and not very expensive.
Different lengths of interconnects ??????
Something does not make sense. If extra length of cable does not make a difference then why Valhalla - very expensive IC.You probably believe that cable makes difference and it is proportional to distance and your question is "how much of a differ...
ICE amps need cooling?
It is not standby power. Smaller module 200ASC has FTC power listed as 55W (standby is about 10W). Icepower cannot run with maximum power for a long time but you don't need it because "average music power" is in single percents of peak power. Also...
how to get good sounding copies of CDs
Some CD players, mostly older ones (weak lasers), have problems playing CDRs (less reflective).Rega Apollo might be one of them. I found info about it in another Audiogon thread:"In John Atkinson's recent testing of a Rega Apollo CD player he note...
Any Newer Class D Mono Amps On The Horizon?
I have Rowland Model 102. It's Icepower 200ASC, rated 200W/4Ohm. I paid $1500 while Bel Canto S300 (same module)was $1600 and Channel Island D100 was close to $2k. Channel Island is based on Hypex modules and sounds a little bit different.
How to make sound less detailed with warmth?
Tube amp, Cardas cables, room treatments.I'm surprised that you want to loose details - thin blanket over speakers will do. It will kill both details AND brightness.90% of people want warm and detailed sound which is very difficult to achieve. I p...
Anybody hear Murano ICE amps?
Mapman - When I bought Rowland 102 I found opinions of others who tested Rowland 102, Bel Canto S300 and PS Audio Trio. My decision was also based on Rowlands reputation and price lower at the time than Bel Canto. One of reviews of Bel Canto's S30...
Anybody hear Murano ICE amps?
Don't wait for the rainy day - Icepower doesn't sell to private people (only to approved manufacturers). Minimum quantity is about 1000 pieces (792 pcs for 200ASC). Modifications to module voids warranty - just wonder if companies have "factory ma...
what advantage to switch mode P/S vs standard P/S
Shadorne, you're right - they might produce EM/RF. Everything is in the hands of designer (and layout designers). I was trying to show best case advantages od SMPS. Unforunately companies often use SMPS topology only to reduce cost making often w...
what advantage to switch mode P/S vs standard P/S
1. SMPS is regulated while traditional linear PS isn't. Likely to hold voltage better at loud passages.2. Current pulse response is faster unless linear supply has expensive slit foil (non-inductive) capacitors etc.3. Higher switching frequency is...
Do amplifiers deteriorate if not used?
SMPS = switcher (switching mode power supply).Follow Gs5556 advice and use Variac. It might not help if you have SMPS (not likely) but will save your amp otherwise.
Class-D amps - a different re view
Ar-t - I have the smallest of the series and 23.5V on terminals. To deliver 5x more power they need voltage around 52.5V. I think it stays below safe level of 60V but agree with you that this might be of concern. I don't touch speaker connectors b...
Class-D amps - a different re view
Ar_t Icepower uses full H-Bridge of 4 Mosfets switching direction of the speaker between +VCC and GND. In spite of VCC/2 on the speaker terminals, voltage between terminals is zero. The only disadvantage of this scheme I know is that you cannot br...
