Class-D amps - a different re view
Muralman1ICE modules do not sample - they have analog sinewave oscillator/modulator converting input voltage to duty cycle and drive output switches (Mosfets). They resemble now more of sigma-delta modulator. Hypex is also analog and probably most...

Just one more comment to pnt. 17 - I said I cannot understand what he's saying. It looks like he things there is up to 70V of constant DC voltage on the speaker terminals???? Please help me to understand this!! I don't know what bothers me more cl...

Elberoth2 - jus shortly9. "Use steep low pass filters to limit the upper high frequency range, partially negating the purpose of wider bandwidth, e.g. SACD, source material while resulting filter phase shifts may be audible in the working band"Don...

Eleberoth2 - let me follow on this. In point 3 he mentiones up to 2V of 50kHz frequency on the speaker cables - complete nonsenese - unless he talks about normal audio signal (my Rowland ha -3dB at 65kHz).Point 4."Make the output impedance, a pass...

There are 3 kinds of switching noise in Class D amp:Carrier frequency - approx 0.5MHzSwitching spikes of output Mosfets - approx few nsSwitching power supply frequency approx 50kHzCarrier has very little chance to get thru linear power supply with...
The best CD Player for the money
$50 DVD player + $1k Benchmark DAC1. Plays CD (also MP3), DVD, and HDTV.
Do amplifiers deteriorate if not used?
Electrolytic caps last at least 15 years - even more if temperature is low. They dry-out so keep storage temperature low. It is possible (and often done) to recap whole amplifier if necessary. Other components don't deteriorate.
4 ohms and 8 ohms
Power delivered to speakers is equal to output voltage squared divided by speakers impedance. It means that power at 4 Ohm will be 2x power at 8 Ohms (if amplifier has the same output voltage). In reality amplifier's voltage drops a bit with lower...

No I am not from Denmark. Nielsens doctorate is available on internet. I own Rowland 102. At first sound was a little "lean" and sharp but over time it mellowed. It needs a little more "chestiness" (lower midrange) - improved after switching speak...

If Martin Collums does not like the sound of switching amps that's his right, but his 17 points are garbage. He thinks that switching amps are digital and have limited resolution (like in 60's). He claims that switching amps have "fragile output d...

Guidocorona - Hi-Fi critic is wrong on all 17 points he presents. Class D produces only about 1% of the carrier (usually 0.5MHz) on the speaker and practically no switching noise (zobel network). My Rowland 102 is directly under TV - no problem. A...
Benchmark to amp direct question?
Signal path inside is identical with or without volume control. In one case front volume pot is active and in the other trimpots are engaged instead. Additional components like preamp or extra set of cables cannot make it sound better but often ad...
anyone here experience with Jeff Rowland Model 102
To be frank I did not listen to any of the components I currently have or others. I read tons of reviews and user opinions instead. I decided that each component is dependand on the others and listening to only one is not useful. I started picking...
anyone here experience with Jeff Rowland Model 102
I am using Benchmark DAC1 (has only digital inputs and built in volume control) with 0.5m AQ King Cobra XLR. Drive Paradigm Studio 60v2 (with improved Xovers)using 6' Acoustic Zen Satori Shotgun. Paradigms are the weakest link now. "Digital" amps ...
anyone here experience with Jeff Rowland Model 102
I mentioned S300 only because there are no reviews of the Rowland's 102 and Bel Canto S300 has at least two. I wonder if Rowland made any changes to factory modules since it normally voids B&O warranty. B&O does not sell them to public and...
