Confused by ICE applications 312 is expensive while 102 is cheap (same price as Bel Canto but better finish). Rowland's cases/finishing is beyond believe.
Single driver speakers - opinions I don't have experience with electrostatic speakers but, if my memory serves me right, they have poor bass extension, less than perfect dynamics and narrow/small sweet spot not to mention large size. Don't they have, being bipolar speakers, to be ...
20 bit players vs. 24 bit players Extra bits come from digital filtering - pretty much useless information. Sonic benefit is, as Shardone explained already, improved filtering with possibility of reduced jitter. Improved more accurate filtering in digital filters gives smoother mo...
Confused by ICE applications Dcstep - My Rowland model 102 has two 200ASC modules inside (identical to picture in datasheet of 200ASC) and nothing else - just case. It is pretty much the same amp as Bel Canto S300 with different case. There might be some tweeking involved.
Burr Brown OPA 2143 vs NJM2068 TL... is probably TL082 or 72 or 62 or something from this family (pretty bad for audio). If you can go with OPA2134 (dual) then go with LM4562 - it is exceptional amp. It is probably 8 pin DIP thru hole plastic package (2 rows 0.3" apart of 4 pin...
Single driver speakers - opinions Cabasse are round while Fujitsu are oval/egg shape. Cabasse is a multi driver design. Cabasse is Swiss and Fujitsu is Japanese. They are not related in design, I think, but shape is pretty similar.
Single driver speakers - opinions Stereophile reviewed Fujitsu-Ten Eclipse TD712z single speaker design with 40Hz-20kHz @ -10dB and 70W max power. Sound was - quote: "As I played a variety of CDs and LPs, the system with the Eclipses had a clarity, transparency, resolution, timbra...
CD player NOT made in China under $1,000? Spoolyt -"You want junk, they will give you junk" - completely agree. There is a factory in Korea called "Samic" that manufactures guitars (largest in the world). Assembly lines are totaly automated and everything is computerized. They built about...
20 bit players vs. 24 bit players "if most redbook cd's are only 16 bit??" - what do you mean by "most". All redbook CDs are 16 bit. Sony-Philips never created any other definition. Even HDCD is recorded in 16 bit format where bit 16 (least significant) switches dynamic range of m...
Confused by ICE applications Johnnyb53 - Onkyo is 85W and the smallest Icepower, as far as I know, is 100W/8ohm.Damping factor is a little confusing. My Icepower has DF=4000 at low frequencies. Is it the reason for its tight bass? Atmasphere transformeless tube amps have DF=1...
Should I go to a Benchmark DAC1 pre in my system? Cjnolan - good advice: buy direct! I bought my DAC1 direct in spite of lower total price at Sweetwater (same price but free shipping). Buying direct gives better support and most likely newest revision. Buying used is a little bit risky since earl...
Should I go to a Benchmark DAC1 pre in my system? Mapman - Benchmark DAC1 instead of dual PLL (phase lock loop) used in modern CD players to create stable clock for D/A converter locks to incoming clock using crude (but fast) single PLL and then reclocks data with separate high quality clock. Thi...
Confused by ICE applications Icepower modules are complete amps, many of them with universal (90-240VAC) SMPS built in. As for usage by JRDG or Bel Canto - it depends on the price tag. The least expensive amps based on Icepower 200ASC (100/200W) just have addition of metal ca...
Should I go to a Benchmark DAC1 pre in my system? According to Benchmark jitter supression -3dB bandwidth is about 3Hz and supression reaches -100dB at 1kHz. They tested Benchmark DAC1 with 1000 feet of cable without audible difference in sound. I've never tried different cables myself - just put...
Burr Brown OPA 2143 vs NJM2068 LM4562 is the newest audio amp from National Semiconductor (they got awards for it) intended for hi-end audio. It has excellent AC (THD=0.00003% IMD=0.00005%) and DC (0.2uV/degC) specifications. Unity Gain Bandwidth is 55MHz and slew rate is 20V/u... |
