Rowland Continuum 500, RCA vs. XLR
Simontiu - Continuum 500 couldn't be balanced all the way thru because of its output stage (already bridge). Do you know of any fully balanced (input to output) Class D amps (not counting DIY seettings). I don't even know traditional fully balance...
Rowland Continuum 500, RCA vs. XLR
Simontju - I just cannot imagine how. Output is not balanced (H-bridge in not same as "bridged"). Would you suggest two separate analog modulators? And each of the driving what? Feedback connected where? It wouldn't make any sens.A little more abo...
Power Amps with High Current or High Damping
High Damping factor is inherent in Icepower class D amps. My small Rowland 102 has DF=4000 at low frequencies and about 1000 at 1kHz. I said "inherent" because always two of four Mosfets are ON shorting load between power and GND. Feedback also he...
Entry Level Cables
For about $250 you can buy used Acoustic Zen Satori. This is one of the better cables - even better bang for the buck than Analysis Plus Oval 9
Any Young Audiophiles Out There?
2muse - good advise. Do you think hearing can be improved or exercised (or diet). I'm OK now but I'd like to keep it that way. I found once info about book by ophthalmologist who claims that eyeside can be improved by training eye muscles and give...
Rowland Continuum 500, RCA vs. XLR
Simontju - Continuum 500 is a class D creature. It cannot be balanced input to output. It has balanced inputs and fully balanced pre but it's converted to duty cycle (time) in analog modulator to finally drive full Mosfet bridge.
verdict on class D amps?
Guido - Great! Thanks.
Is there a consensus as to blu ray sound quality?
Markphd - I just expressed doubts about book (Animal Farm) being witten in 1984 since author died in 1950 (book was written in 1945). I might not remember it correctly but Napoleon did not say that - it was written on the barn.
buzzing from speakers
You don't need to open case to create static damage. Even with properly grounded equipment it might happen if voltage is high and it is repeated many times. You'll find testimony of that here on Audiogon forum. I am able to destroy prototypes of i...
buzzing from speakers
Ryder - "Believe" is the right word. Static might zap the input (or output) if you touch it even if you turn equipment off. Damage to speakers was just an example.Analog Devices application engineer told me once that they had problems with custome...
Thoughts on the best bang for the buck
You need to ask Maggie people. Efficiency is poor but it's not a point source so it gets better than normal 6dB drop for twice the distance. Best bang for the buck might be class D and Benchmark DAC1. I bought Rowland model 102 equivalent to Bel C...
verdict on class D amps?
Muralman1 - It is subjective. What sounds good to you (and him) might not sound good to others (I don't doubt that your gear is great). What is important to me is the bang for the buck that you get with class D. I don't have to have (and cannot af...
Is there a consensus as to blu ray sound quality?
Lrsky - I suspect that better reflection from CD translates somehow to a little lower jitter which is irrelevant if you have jitter suppressing DAC. There might be some improvements with cleaning, balancing, painting edges with green ink etc but I...
Any Young Audiophiles Out There?
Tan43 - don't get depressed. Not the young people only - my late relative was big music fan thru all his life and had hundreds of LPs but did not care at all about sound quality. He had very old, inexpensive integrated LP/amp but It could be as we...
verdict on class D amps?
No Guido. It wasn't my compilation to start with (I found it somewhere on internet) and it needs updating. It would be nice to enter updated list into Excel but I'm too lazy for that. When I bought my Rowland 102 I knew only about Bel Canto and NuF...
