Does anyone or does everyone pay retail price?
I bought retail Rowland 102 and Benchmark DAC1. Both of them have 5 years warranty but only for the first owner.Buying new provides always newest revision of the gear. Buying used Benchmark might end-up getting older unit with thin sounding op-amp...
Why gold?
Shellie "Gold has a warmer sound, silver more air and detail- all things considered"- That's what I heard but it applies to material of the wire and not the thin plating of connector. Audioquest uses silver since gold is not a very good conductor ...
Amplifier hum - normal?
Gbart Thank you - that was very informative.
Amplifier hum - normal?
"A lot of modern amps have toroids, which are more prone to humming and buzzing as a result of DC on the power line."As far as I know Toroid is very quiet compare to non-toroidal transformer. In addition is more efficient because of low stray magn...
Thinking of moving to a Headphone system, thoughts
Djembeplay - "to be able to share the music experience with others." - I feel the same way.I have Sennheisers HD580 (same drivers as HD600) and don't use them. Cord is one issue but I just don't like music inside of my head. My 2 speaker stereo th...
Thinking of moving to a Headphone system, thoughts
Some headphones have physical sound "crosstalk" between channels to provide 3d imaging. In normal speaker reproduction sound gets from right speaker to your left ear with delay. There are computer sound cards drivers that can imitate this delay cr...
Can "Digital" damage my gear?
Mlsstl - I'm probably paranoid but digital offers new way of destroying speakers and even amp in addition to good old ones. It just seems strange to me that one can have amp and speakers destroyed by just playing defective song.Class D amps have o...
Strange ground loop...?
"If the cable is coax, the shield connected at both ends of the cable."Bob - I was talking about interconnects.
Can "Digital" damage my gear?
Mlsstl - I asked because I checked data sheet for Icepower 200ASC used in my Rowland 102 and it shows that full power blast of 20kHz will damage amp (Zobel network) in 20ms and 20W oscillation will do the same in about 1s. This would imply I would...
Strange ground loop...?
IC shield is grounded at one end only (if it's RCA). Try to reverse one that gives you trouble.
Can "Digital" damage my gear?
"I have had some BIG pops on an LP, that I would worry more about then anything digital ?"Can they damage amplifier?
To terminate.. or not
Not every amplifier accepts bananas. Consider spades at least on amp side. From the purist's point of view spade provides the best sound but it's probably way above level of your gear and cables.
Who's your guitar daddy now?
What about Pat Martino? Guy had brain aneurysm and complete amnesia in the age of 36 at the top of recording career. When he found out that he was jazz guitarist before, he learned to play guitar again and is today probably the best jazz guitarist.
Can "Digital" damage my gear?
Sidssp - 25kHz at full blast will take tweeter fast (minutes) as well as my amp and I won't even hear that - sometimes it is the case when amp's output stage goes to high frequency oscillation (instability). That was main reason, other than clippi...
Can "Digital" damage my gear?
Eldartford - I have only one 0.5m XLR (locking) IC. My speaker cables have Cardas bar type (common knob) very secure connector on amp side while on speaker side I have very tight spade connection (I tend to overtight). No loose connection here. Fa...
