Bel Canto CD-2 and Benchmark DAC1
Capq - That's the main advantage of DAC1. It doesn't benefit from good transport or digital cables.
Bel Canto CD-2 and Benchmark DAC1
The only audible difference between expensive and cheap transport is jitter (noise in time domain). Benchmark has such high jitter suppression (-100dB) that transport (or digital cable) won't make any difference. I use Benchmark with cheap DVD pla...
Digital Stream, Is it to soon to make the switch??
Mlsstl - that was a joke
Digital Stream, Is it to soon to make the switch??
Mlsstl - I can understand huge number of fire insurance claims but how one makes flood?
Choosing the right Toslink cable
Check this inexpensive glass Toslink: http://www.uniqueproductsonline.com/3ftgltodiauc.htmlIt is good quality with 280 strands of glass with high quality connectors. I use one.
Digital Stream, Is it to soon to make the switch??
I'm currently ripping my CD collection to external 1TB drive. I'm planning to get second identical drive for backup and keep it at work (in case of theft, fire etc.) External drives are cheap now - i paid less than $100 for 1TB Fantom Drive (metal...
Class-D or switching amps, any opinions on??
Al - they do, but carrier frequency is almost 10x higher and resolution is 16-bit. SACD pulse width modulates at 2.8MHz - said to be equivalent to 20-bit on non-oversampling system. My analog class D amp (Icepower 200ASC) runs at about 500kHz with...
Class-D or switching amps, any opinions on??
Al - Thank you for the link. My problem is with resolution. As you said TACT stated resolution from PWM is 8 bit. Where do they get required extra resolution (possibly by adjusting power supply?). 384kHz carrier sounds about right (Icepower is 400...
Class-D or switching amps, any opinions on??
Rafael - Absolutely agree.Al - I'm not sure what they do to obtain decent resolution. In order to get 16 bit resolution and 20kHz bandwidth with traditional PWM clock has to be 65536x20e3=1.3GHz. It is way to fast and no room to filter out carrier...
Class-D or switching amps, any opinions on??
Dod - I just wondered why you call him "inventor" when class D is known from 50's and Sinclair X-10 was sold in stores both as a product and a kit in 1964 (12 year earlier). It was followed shortly by X-20.Samujohn - class D does not mean "not ana...
Class-D or switching amps, any opinions on??
Timrhu - when you move up in power the bandwidth gets lower. Your PS Audio amp's module has higher (65kHz) bandwidth than more powerful 1000ASP 1kW module. It is simply because stronger Mosfets are slower. New much faster Mosfets are introduced ev...
Class-D or switching amps, any opinions on??
Dob - Sinclair produces class D audio amplifier called X-10 in 1964 (Designer: Gordon Edge)
Speaker suggestions
I'm looking also for speakers within the same budget. I'm waiting for used Revel Studio 2.
Is 75 ohm IC OK from AVR to subwoofer?
Kirkus - two more issues I know of:- coupled noise (in addition to ground loops) will cause voltage drops (returning to earth ground) appearing as a signal (since shield is used as a return - bad practice)- cable is most likely made of low quality...
Class-D or switching amps, any opinions on??
Magfan - I don't know if Mosfet configuration alone can be considered topology. Icepower uses full bridge vs. half-bridge on Hypex. Some people claim that full bridge sounds more "tube like" but also places half of the supply voltage on speaker te...
