Benchmark VS Mark levinson 36 DAC ?????????
I was and still am, for a change, impressed with stock Benchmark. A lot of reviewers were as well including 2004 Stereophile "Component Of The Year" award. Why then many people hear "forward and bright"? Possibly because Benchmark, according to th...
Zu Omen Defs and Ice Amps?
Audiofeil - I agree. I use small class D Rowland 102 amp with Hyperion HPS-938 speakers (90dB sensitivity). Sound has presence and resolution but also softness and fullness. Bass is punchy and powerful. Instruments sound very natural with great ha...
XLR and RCA interconnects in the same system?
Elizabeth - you can compare only equivalent XLR to RCA. It might not make any difference in your system if you don't have ground loops or noisy environment but I like to think about it as a form of insurance against possible problems. I use short ...
Is 75 ohm coax the same as S/PDIF?
Peter_s - you're right about very short runs. Connection is usually considered a transmission line when output transition time is less than 8x propagation time. For typical 25ns transitions found in less expensive transports, assuming 0.7 speed of...
XLR and RCA interconnects in the same system?
"Actually balanced is just a buzzword used to sell stuff. it has NO value over RCA at all for any system except the fully balanced from beginning to end electronics."Yes it does have value over RCA. It suppresses noise much better, prevents discon...
Who was the best jazz guitarist ever?
Pat Martino - he is "twice" better than the others since at the age of 36 (peak of his career - 15 records) he suffered brain aneurysm followed by brain surgery that left him with complete amnesia. Being told that he was a musician he learned how ...
DAC or CD player
"Prices will continue to come down; a year or two from now, your DAC dollar will go further."DAC technology is changing rapidly, so if you wait another few years you'll get much better DAC for less. Just remember to buy this DAC before you die.
Ice1000 ASP technical question
They try to show effect of 2x and 4x lower speaker impedance - so for 4 ohm speaker two other traces are 2ohm and 1ohm. Not only that 1000ASP is not rated for 1ohm but traces should not meet at 1kHz since it is always ratio of speaker impedance to...

"Audiofeil, you forgot the Rankin scale!"and Reaumur scale!
Are audiophile speakers turn on for single women?
"Seriously, sometimes I get more excited about my speakers than women. Is that wrong?"No it isn't, as long as you're not making love to them.
"God Bless the Child" on Idol?
It is weird - judges on one hand praise being emotionally attached to the song while the same time they praised Paul singing with big smile "I shot man in Reno...". I'm not sure why judges are even there, since they praise everything. There are so...
Best combination of sweetness and dynamics?
Hyperion HPS-938. 6ohm nominal 3.8ohm min, 90dB.
Spikes or Spikeless
I'm not sure what the objective is. Spikes are usually needed to decouple speaker from vibrating floor (infinitely small point cannot transfer energy). Your floor is concrete and most likely won't vibrate, so I assume you want to suppress speaker ...
Could this be the next Frank Sinatra?
"I guess he should just pack it up and go work for McDonald's instead"I agree, but if he tries really hard he might get singing job at cruise line or restaurant.
"The Heat Pipes are coming"... The Heat Pipes are
Al - I agree. I can see some relevance in laptop design where larger heatsink or heatsink with fan might not fit but cannot imagine any sense of it in SS amplifier where output transistors that generate heat are already mounted to external heatsin...
