Now That You've Ripped Your Entire Collection...
I bring drive home every time I feel it needs to be updated. I alternate drives remembering which drive was updated last. I decide to update when I add more than 10 CDs. In worst case when I loose original drive and one backup I can be 20 CDs behi...
Does Cu oxidation away from contact points matter?
Copper oxide "patina" is a very thin (about 0.005") and protects itself from further oxidation. Some current would go thru this layer (that is semiconductor) but majority of the current would go thru the core. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Str...
Now That You've Ripped Your Entire Collection...
Bondmanp, I have second hard drive backup just in case of controller failure (or my mistake) during backup process, that can damage both drives - source and backup. I also keep second drive at my work (fire, theft). For these reasons I don't belie...
regarding shielding
RCA cables have usually shield connected to ground on one side and it is enough to drain induced currents. Grounding shields on both sides (like in XLR cables) would provide better return but could also create ground loops.
What are the differences in Tweeter materials?
Steve Mowry says in the article "The Whole Truth About Beryllium Diaphragms: -"For a given geometry the first bending (break-up) frequency is proportional to the material Speed Of Sound, where the speed of sound within a material is defined as the...
Best "Giant Killer" Value Cables For...
For class D amp you might look at cables that have a little fuller lower midrange such as Acoustic Zen Satori that I use with class D Rowland 102 amp. They are about $350 used for standard non-biwire 8 feet pair.
What kind of power cord comes with expensive gear
From Jeff Rowland website:"Various accessories such as power cords, interconnects, power conditioners, and even more so major components such as speakers, as well as analog or digital front ends, often have a significant effect on the sound of a m...
Tube amps and loads.
Corazon, I'm no expert on tube amps, but AFAIK you should not operate it without load. The fact that you don't apply signal doesn't change anything since practically anything can cause output transient that, with open transformer, will generate hi...

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you considering tossing your CD collection to garbage? You might consider giving them to your local library.
How is/was your Satori speaker cable?
I can tell you the difference between my old Audioquest Indigo (biwired) and current Satori Shotgun. Satori is faster, cleaner and silkier. It also gives fuller lower midrange (male voices, cello etc) - perfect for my class D amp. Indigo sounded t...
Airpot Express - Upgrade amp or DAC?
Thanks Steve. It looks interesting.
Airpot Express - Upgrade amp or DAC?
Steve, who makes reclocker with this new TI chip?
On High Current Amps and Regenerators
I use Furman Elite 20PFi with class D Rowland 102 amp. According to Furman's technical data it can provide 55 amperes peak current. My amp is connected to high current outputs. I don't hear any loss of dynamics or other negative effects but my amp...
Internal audio cards, are they really good?
Jorsan, electrical noise affect digital transmission creating jitter. Jitter converts in D/A chip to audio noise. This conversion is a form of modulation. Because of it amplitude of this noise will be proportional to amplitude of the sound and wil...
Airpot Express - Upgrade amp or DAC?
Thanks, Steve. I'm committed to wireless network but will wait few years to make big step with new DAC (and possibly reclocker). It looks like D/A chips improved but also reclocking chips and analog electronics are making big steps.
