Kimber KS-1130 or KS-1126
I have owned all of these cables and still use the KS-1130 and KS-1136. That said, I have always thought the KS-1126 to be the "sweet spot" in the Kimber lineup and I think it would work very well as a 5m run between your preamp and monos.I actual...
Playback Designs MPD-3
Thanks for your input Ghasley. Your reaction to the dCS gear you heard was very similar to mine when I auditioned it in my own system: very good but too analytical overall. In retrospect, I did hear the PD MPD-3 or at least something close at T.H.E...
Playback Designs MPD-3
Ghasley, how does the sound of the MPD-3 differ from dCS gear which converts the data to 5 bit 2.8MHz or 3.07MHz rather than the 1bit 6.1MHz rate of the PD gear?I much preferred the ARC DAC 8 in native resolution to an expensive dCS stack but have...
Why Do You Still Have Vinyl if You Don't Play it?
Macdadtexas, thank you for your suggestions. I am a computer geek who has been lucky enough to sell my ideas for substantial profit and I will check out the Drobo.
Favorite Pre Amp and Amp with Vandersteen?
The finest Quatro rig I've heard consisted of an Ayre KX-R running MX-Rs through Audioquest cables. Randy Cooley's setup of 5As run by ARC Ref 5 and Ref 150s at T.H.E. Show in Newport was compelling.
Why Do You Still Have Vinyl if You Don't Play it?
Dev, to paraphrase your own advice to Timrhu on 8/6/11, no disrespect but if you re-read my posting on 8/7/11 you'll find that you left something out. Namely the 6TB server fronted by a MacBook Pro/Amarra setup.8/7/11 is after my post you pulled u...
Why Do You Still Have Vinyl if You Don't Play it?
Dev, I recently sold my Grand Prix Audio Monaco TT, Triplanar Vii, Benz LP-S rig in preference to my Sooloos and now a 6TB server fronted by a MacBook Pro/Amarra setup. Too bad for you "it's game over".Mine's still going on.
Kimber's new KS 6000 SC
Lol programmergeek. Perhaps putting a magic network filter on the cables would reassure you.
Kimber's new KS 6000 SC
I have been burning in some KS 6065 and so far find it to have a little less body than KS Elation but with a bit more air and dynamics. Not bad so far.I'll keep you posted.
Swiss amps
I have heard them all and I'd give my nod to FMA, with a very close second to darTZeel. I found the Soulution 710 unlistenable, but I suspect a $140,000.00 turntable could help. The Burmesters from Germany or the Boulders from USA compete handily. ...
Should i go Boulder 1060 or Jeff Rowland 625
Boulder is a much better unit. They have great support but you will never need it.That was helpful, I'm sure.Horses for courses, but I think Boulder is among the most melifluous of SS amps, along with Burmester, darTZeel and the BEL 1001, sadly no...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
I think the Audio Research DAC 8 might have just done it.It's a redux of the classic tubes/SS dilemma but they've sure got an intoxicating blend of the attributes of digital and analog going in this unit for sure.
Back to tubes?
Cerrot, I am considering that option also. There is certainly no preamp like no preamp.Jaybo, I love the 1012 but no longer need the inboard phonostage or DAC. I might just succumb and get a 2010 but peerless though it may be, it certainly exempli...
Back to tubes?
Bifwynne, you're probably right but I really appreciate being reintroduced to the tube equipment out there right now.I'll have to see what's available for audition in my area as well.I do have an easy lead on a Ref 5 or VTL 7.5 so I am particularl...
