ESOTERIC X-03 VS. AYRE C5XE Golfish, I had the wonderful opportunity of auditioning the C5xe and the X-03 side by side with Brooks Berdan himself when he was considering which, if either line he would carry. The C5xe was chosen independently by us both so I bought one and he...
What exactly does "Hospital Grade" mean? "Hospital Grade" takes the place of "Mil-Spec" now that the U.S. healthcare system has overtaken the Military with regards to power and waste.
Ayre C 5xe Universal vs. Cary 306 SACD Now that my iron lung is working again, I can finally respond. Tvad, good point. You seemed to have gotten the joke. One can only hope Metralla's quoting you will allow him to attain the bliss of Audiofeil's ignorance. How many qualifiers does it ...
Power Conditioner for your amplifier? The Burmester 948 power conditioner is one of those hyperexpensive components that will substantially improve the resolution, noise floor and dynamics of most line level inputs but what makes it worth the investment is how it transforms the respon...
About the new Wilson Audio Watt/Puppy 8 Finally heard the Zus. They sound like slightly constricted Mangers. Surely one must wonder why crossovers exist at all. Or why AC current and Transformers should not grace any pretender to the throne.
JADIS JA80 with 6550 or KT 88 or KT90 ? Jadis tube lover that I am, now understand my devotion to the SS SOTA: Hovland, hand built locally, customizable, accessible, affordable, dependendable, reliable, predictable. What's not to love? Just the tax and duty added on to the tubes from Fr...
Ayre C 5xe Universal vs. Cary 306 SACD Sorry but it's the best. Sorry about your AA tussle. What, pray tell, sounds better than the C-5xe on 99% of Redbook?
JADIS JA80 with 6550 or KT 88 or KT90 ? Trelja is the most knowledgeable resource about tubes that exisists in my web travels and I have learned much from his previous threads. That said, I would still only re-tube a Jadis amp directly from Villedubert. Unless you never liked the sound ...
Ayre C 5xe Universal vs. Cary 306 SACD The C-5xe is the finest Redbook player yet made. It has no need to "upsample" the input and therefore avoids "downgrading" the output. It just plays music. Though its SACD/DVD-A playback is SOTA these media have diminishing relevance and probably ...
About the new Wilson Audio Watt/Puppy 8 Keeping on thread, the 8 will have the new titanium high range driver from the MAXX 2, an extensively redesigned proprietary crossover and an entirely new cabinet utilizing new bracing and more of Wilson's "M" and "X" materials without any lead in...
Who makes speakers with relaxed high freq.? Vandersteen makes some of the most highly listenable fatigue-free speakers available. They are one of the best values in high-end speakers. You could buy 2Ces new or 3As used with your budget. Used Audio Physic Virgos would also be a nice choice.
Help with Shanling SCD-T200 please Dchan88, Dlstephenson, my T-200 sounded no different with WE 396s vs stock or via SS outputs. It also wouldn't read SACDs or CDRs reliably despite two software tweaks from the North American distributer. It's still for sale at my audio dealer if a...
Help with Shanling SCD-T200 please Jefftech, I heard a difference between the tube and SS outputs of my T-100 but not the T-200. As dchan88 points out above the T-200's volume control basically sucks and is likely the source of the homogenized sound. What I really want to know is ho...
$2k for new Cartridge Benz LP or...... Congratulations Nkj. I used a RSP/Oracle V/Triplanar IV for years and was never disappointed. Though I've "defected" to the Benz LP I still think your front end will be remarkably satisfying. Enjoy!
Help with Shanling SCD-T200 please James for what it's worth I never heard any difference between the tube and solid state outputs of my T200 at all, ever. Even with all the pretty lights working. Your experience confirms my suspicions but I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions. |
