Pioneer Elite vs. Pioneer "Standard" Kuro Plasmas The Elites have a much better video scaler in them and are much more ISF friendly, both can be calibrated, but the Elite can be done perfectly, the standard is missing something in the calibration I seem to remember.
Apple macbook, solidstate H/drive option or not. Andrew,Yes, the solid state drive has no moving arts and saves on energy and heat as well as wear and tear, that said it's a fortune! I just bought the older model MacBook Air from MacMall for $1,149, for me, the 80G HD is enough for my laptop use...
power line conditioners... Bicycleman,What bikes do you ride? I keep a Seven and Serrotta in my garage. As for the power conditioners. First, no energy/power is stored in a transformer, so that isn't it. You likely are seeing the fact that you are now less influenced by inte...
Blu-ray format... Do you like it compared to DVD? Guys,Check out the new Sony's, I have the BDP-S350 and it boots even notoriously slow discs like POTC almost instantly!!!Load time no longer is an issue, cost is reasonable and FWIW if you buy discs off Amazon, they run ~$18 (at least that has bee...
Walmart pushing blu-ray Guys,Blu-ray players have sold for $199 with $100 gift cards in them already. I bought my sixth Blu-ray player the other day from Amazon, a Sony BDP-S350 for $278 shipped, and the player is the best I've had yet. I am an early adopter, I know the ...
Which Universal Remote to Use? Maxim,I have had my 880 for ~5 years, it works flawlessly, my 890 is slightly younger but not by much and again, works perfectly, neither has ever had an issue, and I would highly disagree with the statement that they are 'delicate'.I have big dog...
Which Universal Remote to Use? Yeah,I got the Harmony 1000 for free, and it's barely worth that. Initially Harmony had told me they were going to allow you to customize the screens, but that is never going to happen, they also needed to add an RF to RS 232 controller to it but ...
vinyl on the move Sorry Kurt, I can't be of much help comparing it to others as I am really early on in this and it is my only point of reference. I bought the Dynavector as I got a pretty good deal on it and it is very flexible allowing me to change cartridges wit...
vinyl on the move No problem!I started out with a Marantz TT15 which is basically a modified Clearaudio Emotion with Clearaudio Virtuoso Ebony wood cart and a Dynavector P75 Mk II phono pre. It's great for the bedroom, now I am trying to decide on something for the...
vinyl on the move Kurt_tank,Kind of obnoxious eh??What I said was I was happy to be ONE causing this resurgence!I did not say I was THE one!!!Now as far as upgrading the TT and phono preamp, I am sure I will do it several times in three years, and am already shoppi...
Which Universal Remote to Use? I've had the Harmony 690,880,890, and 1000.For me, the 890 is the best allowing RF to IR control and is all inclusive (you need to buy the RF extender to the 1000 for $99)I would not recommend the Harmony one, it is cute with the touch screen but ...
vinyl on the move I bought my first TT in over 20 years this year and am happy to be one causing this resurgence!
Random appearing distortion while playing LPs I was thinking the same thing as Shardone.do you clean your stylus and records before playing? That might solve this issue. FWIW I have had TT's in very dusty environments and found the same thing but if I clean the stylus and records before playi...
Anybody notice DTS is hardly used anymore? I'm with you Kal, both DTS HD MA and Dolby TrueHD are lossless. In theory DTS HD MA has more bandwidth, but I don't know if it will prove to be better, and my experience, it depends more n the Blu-ray or HD DVD than the codec.
Esoteric DV50 vs sonic frontiers sfd2mk2 I can't compare the Esoteric to the SF gear you have, but have lived with the esoteric DV-50 for several years and have no intention of replacing it unless I go to something like the EMM Labs separates. |
