There's a lot more bass in a 6.5" driver than most of you think
What nigels SNR 1 really proves is how easy it is to be a speaker designer. All he has done is put a set of high end scanspeaks into a wooden box. Thats 50% of the job. I assume he didnt cut the wood himself either. The crossover is simply a matte...

one reviewer was astounded to see usable bass frequency output down to about 31.5 hzThe woofer would need to move a huge distance to do that. Why push a small woofer to its limit when you could just use a bigger woofer? Do you think you can have y...

are they warm in the mids?

I was astonished by how much clean, low-frequency energy four 5.5" woofers could pump into my room.yeh right. And he would be even more astonished if i replaced those small woofers with 12 inch woofers.

and erik is wrong again. A 6.5 inch woofer must not do bass. Its too small. You need big 15 inch woofers to do bass. And doing bass and mids is a horrible compromise. Erik is all wrong.

This driver will be a drop in replacement for most Seas and Scanspeak 6.5 in. driversno it will not. Its unlikely to fit the exact size hole and every driver must be custom tuned to the box. No such thing as a drop in replacement.
The equalizer you don't know you have
@bryhifi Custom tuning a speaker is far less profitable for the speaker industry. That is why instead they do mass production. The same with trousers. Its far cheaper and easier to mass produce sizes that go up in 1 inch increments than to custom ...

speakers are there to be heard and enjoyed not measured. Therefore it is crucial that they are custom tuned to your ears only. Unfortunately many speaker designers rely on measurements and the result is speakers that sound horrible.

whenever the conversation goes over their head.So why dont you enlighten us if you think you are more knowledgeable than me?

Well, very few very good sounding drivers are ideal, or integrate well with the other drivers. Speaker designers compensate for this within the crossover. Which is why so many audiophiles are never happy with their speakers. The EQ that is built i...

I don’t find any speaker sounding good (to my ears) in a normal listening room without it. what curve do you apply?

i think it was A17m. From what I understand these are tuned flat as a ruler. Unfortunately some people find this too harsh including me. If they were retuned, i would be able to tolerate them. They were designed to MEASURE FLAT rather than SOUND G...

Their job is to highlight everything in the mix.yeah right. Why did they sound horrible regardless of what I played? I had several different cds with me. They were tuned incorrectly. Simple as that. Its amazing how many people, even professionals ...

i heard their two ways and they were very unpleasant. Horrible. They must have made a mistake with the crossover design.
Why not put crossover networks in accessible compartments?
They literally pot (encase in black resin) their crossovers so you cannot see anything, even if you disassemble the speakers. so how do you know what they use?
