Paradigm Studio 60 V5 Fingernails on Chalkboard I haven't heard the current Studio 60s, but I've heard them enough in the past and know that they aren't the easiest load to drive. Add to that that Denons don't typically like lower impedence speakers, and that may be part of the cause. Everythin...
DAC/Cable box connection My TV has an optical output. Not sure if it's a passthrough, has an analog to digital converter, stereo, etc. Not sure what it would do as I've never tried it. See if your TV has one. Maybe that'll work rather than swapping boxes?
Quick poll: Most enjoyable audio magazine ? I just let my Stereophile subscription lapse. Fewer reviews of gear and music, and more ads. They're also reviewing less and less 'affordable' gear lately. Well at least affordable to me. They'll review one or two affordable pieces every other mon...
Who's Your Favorite Bass Players; Why? Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath only mentioned once?Tim Commerford of Rage Against the Machine not mentioned at all? Both of these guys lay down the foundation of their bands. They're a bit like rhythm guitar players.Rob Trujillo (current Metallica ...
Naim HDX vs Resolution Audio Cantata I haven't heard the Cantata or anything else Resolution Audio. I've heard the HDX and Naim DAC several times. The DAC sounds better than the HDX to my ears. What's feeding the DAC obviously factors in, so there could be instances where the HDX wil...
New Apple TV -- Anyone planning on it? You need a TV to do all the initial set up and maintanence stuff like checking if you have the latest updates. The Touch/iPhone remote is great for selecting music. I haven't tried it, but I think you can add to an "on the go" playlist from it.Have...
Because your car should sound good too Probably, Unsound. While I get why people want good music in their car- who doesn't? - I think there's a limit. Can you 'critically listen' while driving? For that matter, should you be?My Alpine deck and factory speakers sound good enough for me. ...
Guitar Hero or Rock Band: Admit You Play? I understand the 'looking down' on Guitar Hero (not that I'm saying you're looking down on it per se). Playing a real guitar or drums would be better. But not everyone has the time or money to do this. I certainly don't have the time.I also unders...
Guitar Hero or Rock Band: Admit You Play? I thought the same thing Tiggerfc. My 17 year old brother (I'm 34, a bit of a gap) was selling off his XBox stuff, so I jokingly asked him if I could have his Guitar Hero III game and guitar. He brought it by the next weekend and started jamming. ...
Monitors for Large Room Some active ATCs may be a very good option if they'll fit your budget. Less boxes may equal less 'eye sores' to your wife.
Monitors for Large Room ATCs are a bit tough to live with, but they may work well for you so long as you have a monster amp behind them. One of ATC's hang ups that I've noticed is that they need to be played a bit louder than usual to open up. In a big room, that may ver...
Because your car should sound good too Has anyone heard the McIntosh car audio gear? Looks very interesting.
what is the best, least costly DAC...? I heard the V-DAC in a shop with the Mac and BAT systems I talked about earlier. Those systems are sonically different than what I own, but I've heard them a million times. Maybe when I can afford one of them, I'll buy one. I've never heard either...
what is the best, least costly DAC...? The V-DAC was demoed in several systems that are anything but dull and involving. I know the room very well too, and that wasn't the issue...Mac seperates and transport with Sonos Faber Cremonas, and BAT and B&W 800 something or other towers. ...
