New Apple TV -- Anyone planning on it?
Couldn't agree more, Edavis. I have the previous gen ATV and use my iPhone to control it. Ripping and synching my CDs wasn't fun, but I'm so glad I took the time to do so. My collection is about half of yours, so I still have a ways to go. I bough...
New Apple TV -- Anyone planning on it?
I think WAV is 60% larger than Apple Lossless. Don't hold me to that exact number.Edavis-Thanks for not taking my findings as an attack. I've seen too many people get worked up over stuff like that. All we can do is report our own findings. Speaki...
Magnum Dynalab 308 drive Magnepan 1.7 or 3.6?
Just as an FYI, the Magnum Dynalab integrateds and receivers were built and/or designed by Simaudio. MD did the tuner section, but not sure about who did what else. Not sure if yours is a rebadged Simaudio integrated or not, nor which Sim it would ...
AIFF vs Apple Lossless Ripping
iTunes downloads are mp3 (120kbps?). If buying a whole album, buy the CD. If you only want a song or two, then the iTunes may make sense. To get around iTunes digital rights, download the song, burn it to a CD, then rip said CD.
Theta dac to match Theta Data Basic II transport
The Arcam rDAC is quite good. Don't be too quick to discount the old Theta DACs. I have a Cobalt that I was looking to replace. The budget DACs weren't good enough to do it to my ears - V-DAC, DAC Magic, etc. It took the $1k Rega to make it worthw...
New Apple TV -- Anyone planning on it?
Interesting, Edavis. I've tried WAV and Apple Lossless on several CDs and didn't hear a difference on my ATV gen 1. Not doubting what you're hearing, just stating what I've heard (or haven't heard) on my system.
Anyone use CD tweaks
Pledge AntiStatic works great for CDs. The non-aerosol one that's safe for electronics. Far cheaper than any audiophile brand, and far better than anything I've used. For about $5, if it doesn't work as well, you can still use it for other stuff.S...
New Rega DAC
I've had one for about a week now. Best way to describe the sound is that it sounds like a very good turntable. A touch warm and smooth, but not artificially so. Everything my Apollo did, the DAC more than one-ups.And it's solidly built. I'd say i...
Speakers on floor?
I'm pretty sure most speakers were designed with tweeter height as a priority. Most speakers put the tweeter above the mid/low driver(s), some put them under, some put them off to the side. It's not a random placement of what looks best. Most recom...
entry into analog for naim/totem system
Rega P5, TTPSU, Dynavector 10x5If this is over budget, get the P3 with TTPSU. The P3 with it is better than the P5 without it to my ears.Rega TTs are a natural choice with Naim. Dynavectors work very well with both too.
Apple TV sound quality as a transport
Rip your CDs as Apple Lossless, and turn error correction on. It'll take a little while longer, but it's worth it IMO. Not a hhuge difference, but some CDs sound a little better.I didn't think the power cord would make a difference either, especia...
Apple TV sound quality as a transport
Are you using the Apple TV's analog outs? If so, a DAC will most likely improve things. I'm not very impressed with the Apple TV's analog outputs.Make usre everything is ripped as either Apple Lossless or similar; no mp3. What I've found in my sys...
What I learned on Audiogon This Year
Right back at you, Bally!
What I learned on Audiogon This Year
1) Recorded music through a stereo sounds better than a live concert2a) A $3k coax cable on a $300 MF V-DAC is a great match2b) The $300 MF V-DAC sounds better than anything under $10k, especially CDPs3) Moving speaker cables (not disconnecting or...
Wadia gets acquired
Sometimes a company needs a bigger company to put them backon track. Great designers/engineers aren't always the best business people. Not talking about design and part selection, but everything else - marketing, distribution, production, human re...
