dac advice
I use a Rega DAC with my Apple TV (Apple Lossless files). Smooth, warm, and very turntable like in it's sound. Not artificially though. With the ATV, get a glass toslink cable, as I found that makes a big difference. I use a Sonicwave glass cable f...
Buying used or sight unseen speakers a bad idea?
There are some very good people with little to no feedback. I know this because I'm one of them! How are people supposed to build feedback if no one does business with people with no feedback?I've bought 2 items here, and sold 2 here. Never bought ...
Step up from NAD PP2
I agree with Bill regarding integrateds and built in phono stages. Except for a B60 (genuinely not trying to sound biased) and maybe, just maybe a Rega Mira 3, I'd go with an external phono stage.Rega's internal stage is very good, but I'm pretty ...
New Rega DAC
The RCAs are standard RCAs as far as I know. Nothing special about them, and nothing inferior either. They look like any other RCA jack I've seen on gear. Not to open a can of worms, but I doubt the high grade RCA jacks do anything more than look ...
New Rega DAC
What's the issue as far as grip? Are your interconnect cables coming loose easily, or are the RCA jacks wobbly?I don't have any issues with mine. I didn't throughly inspect them, but had no reason to. If it helps, I used Audioquest King Cobras, wh...
Step up from NAD PP2
I really liked my 320BEE. I sort of regret selling it, as I could have used it for a second system some day. Paired up great with my PSBs (also sold off), and it sounds great with your B&Ws. I sold it to help pay for my B60, so not too much re...
Wadia 171i Digital Transport Sound Issues
"I'm also confused as to how digital IC's can be so different if there true 75ohm termination and wire..."They're not all true 75 ohms. I think the termination is the biggest culprit in that, but don't hold me to that.Even if they were, different ...
Do you ever wonder?
U2REMGrateful Dead (ok, I guess it's about the drugs)Dave Matthews BandStingColdplayRadioheadThe WhoThose bands have a cult like following for reasons unbeknownst to me. I'm not saying they're a bunch of "no-talent ass-clowns" (to quote a characte...
Rega DAC? Oppo 95 and wait?
I haven't heard the Oppo, so no opinion on it.I owned the Rega Apollo and searched for a while to find a $1k and under upgrade to it. I bought a Rega DAC and have no regrets whatsoever. Even though they're the same price, the DAC is in no way a la...
Rega Brio R or Jolida 301RC
I have several forum friends who loved their Jolida gear "when it worked." None were happy with the reliability nor the customer support from Jolida. Maybe they were isolated incidents, maybe not. I wouldn't buy thieir stuff after what I heard.I'm...
Step up from NAD PP2
I owned the NAD PP2 and a 320BEE. The PP2 was good for the money, but not much more than that. All the phono stages you mention and others will mention will reveal that the PP2 sounds slow and closed in.Off the one's you mention, I like the Simaud...
Monitor suggestions
Pretty sure the entire Totem line is now available in white.
An interesting Digital vs. Analog experience
Thanks for sharing that with us, Mceljo. I've always wondered why people get so hell bent on the vinyl vs digital topic. Why settle for one when you can have both. With the money some people have thrown around, I'm sure they could afford top quali...
How to restore faded veneer due to sunlight?
There's a product called Howard's Restore-a-finish, or something like that. A lot of DIY guys have used it on water marks/rings on veneered speakers with pretty good results. Not sure how it handles fading though. Not sure if it's in the UK either....
B&W in best buy
My local BB/Magnolia has the B&W 600 and CM series. They also have entry level Martin Logan, Energy, Def Tech, and Mirage. They used to drive them with Primmare integrateds, but dropped those along with Vienna. I think Sumiko stopped selling t...
