Generation 1 Apple TV as a music server
The ATV 1 has a normal sized toslink (non-mini) output. USB won't output anything. Won't input anything either, unless you hack it.The ATV 1 has analog, toslink, and HMDI outputs.I don't own the ATV 2, so no comments from me.
Best platter mat for Acrilic platter ?
I used a Herbie's mat with the stock aluminum platter on my Pro-Ject 1Xpression with great results. I upgraded the platter to Pro-Ject's acrylic platter. The Herbie's mat over damped everything; they sucked together. The original felt mat that cam...
New to Turntable - what're involved in playing LP?
There's a lot of very good entry level decks that come with pre-mounted cartridges. They're about as plug and play as it gets. Speak to the seller and get a sense of what you'll need spec-wise from a phono preamp. After you amass LPs and decide you...

Best things 'in life'
My wife and I watching our 1 year old daughter run, dance, play, and laugh. To me, that's the best thing in life and is true happiness. In comparison, everything else is a cheap imitation at best.
Is theRega Saturn a major upgrade over the Apollo
I haven't heard the MF V-DAC II. If its anything like the original, which I'm lead to believe it is (I think the only difference is asynch USB), everything you've mentioned is way above it. There's no comparison. If there was, I'd have happily bou...
Hi Fi Dealers in NYC - where to find them?
If you're interested in a Linn or Rega turntable, Accent on Music in Mount Kisco has several on the floor and have a bunch of cartridges too. I know I mentioned them before, so please don't think I'm pushing them on you. I just really appreciate t...
Hi Fi Dealers in NYC - where to find them?
Anyone been to Audio Nexus in NJ? They seem to have a great selection of stuff, according to their website.
Hi Fi Dealers in NYC - where to find them?
I got very tired of the NYC dealers that I've been to. Cosmophonic Sound had a gentleman that was very good. I had 1 good experience in Lyric on Lexington, and several not so good ones. I guess I can't bash Sound By Singer, as I've been in 4 times...
Itunes or Cds, the smartest purchase?
We all (for the most part) agree that CDs sound better than iTunes downloads. We also all (for the most part) want something physical to hold. Their in lies the rub...The OP is overseas and it seems he doesn't want to amass a collection that he'll...
DAC newbie: toslink vs. coax and more...
Coax isn't always better than toslink. Like everything else, it depends on the application and implementation. If you're running a signal from a noisy source like a computer or cable box, toslink eliminates any electrical noise issues between the ...
digital suggestions? please
I'd look into a stereo DAC rather than a pre/pro. The DACmagic is a very good unit for the money. There are better at higher costs, just like everything else IMO. Depends on your budget. You can go from your cable box or TV into a 2 channel DAC if ...
Itunes or Cds, the smartest purchase?
I think you're confusing import format on iTunes with download format. Unless iTunes recently added uncompressed music, I'd stick to buying and ripping CDs. I think Rhino Records has uncompressed downloadable music on their site, but the catalog's...
"Neutral/Clear Amp vs. Dark Amp"
Bryston keeps things very neutral while staying quite musical to my ears. SST series is very good, and SST2 is even better. What's best for $5k depends on preferences and power needs IMO.
Best Multi CD Deck
