I want to pick up a vintage SS integrated
In some ways build quality was better, in other ways not.  The chassis and casework is usually heavier gauge, fewer ICs and more discreet wiring.  Pots and connectors were chassis mounted.  Nice wooden cases.  But the components were built to lowe...

Nitewulf:  If it's aesthetics you are after, I cannot help you.  That will be a personal journey.  But I get it.  I thoroughly enjoy dragging out my ST-70 and PAS 3x and hooking them up to some ancient Altec horns.  I have a 100+ year old old oak ...

For a stop-gap measure, you could pick up a new Emotiva A-100 for $230.  This amp will out-perform the vintage amps you are looking at and will come with a three year warranty.  You may well decide to give up your search for a restored vintage amp...
Sound Quality of red book CDs vs.streaming
I just signed up for IDAGIO.  I can't put it down!  This thing is going to ruin me.  For three nights in a row I have been up past my bedtime listening to music.  I think that anybody who is into classical music should give it a try!
Big speakers in small room at moderate volume levels
Yes, Harbeths are amazing.  I have been accused of being a fanboy, so I won't say much about them other than I bought a pair (P3esr).Those SHL5s would sound excellent using the amp you have.  I doubt that spending $10k for an amp would improve the...
Step up from Bluesound Vault 2, next move?
I suspect you may have a hard time discerning an audio difference between the Bluesound (as a transport) and a more expensive piece of equipment. A few years ago I placed a Bluesound Node (first edition with the weird angles) in my system, and ran...

I'm not sure what "full" sound is.  More bass?  Wide dispersion?  Small monitors with well integrated subs can sound plenty "full".  Timing issues regarding when the sound pressure hits your ears are a tough argument for me to swallow.  Separate s...
Sound Quality of red book CDs vs.streaming
I agree about Tidal.  I find myself listening to it most of the time.  I am blessed that I can't tell the difference between the same digital file presented to my DAC by different digital sources.cycles2:  your comments regarding artists is smack ...
Big speakers in small room at moderate volume levels
Keep what you have and get a small sub, or get two (even better).  Your room is too small to worry about getting the system to be loud enough.  You will, for the most part, be listening "near field", so the LS50s will be perfect;  plenty of sound ...
Sound Quality of red book CDs vs.streaming
For a while I was doing Room/Tidal, but I found no motivation to spend time burning CDs. I had some that I had burned previously, and Roon picked them up just fine, but I found myself just going straight to Tidal 90 percent of the time. So now I’m...
If you could only keep 5 record albums, what would they be?
If, indeed, I was put in the position of only being allowed to keep 5 record albums, I would think that most all of the contributors collections would be adequately satisfying.  I suspect that the limitation of recorded music would encourage me to...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
Man, the hipsters are into pro audio.  They'll go direct from their phones to a pair of active studio monitors.  The extra cool kids have a two channel audio interface or a small mixing board so they can plug in their turntables, CD players, plays...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
Somebody mentioned "Exile on Main Street".  My remastered digital copy (2010, Universal Republic records B0014130-02) sounds harsh on my system, my old record from '72 sounds perfect.  Who knows?
If you could only keep 5 record albums, what would they be?
The way I see it, a record album was originally a cardboard book with paper sleeves and a bunch of 78s in it.  A "record" was just a single 78.  So as far as I'm concerned, an album can be a boxed set!
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Slaw:  Technics SL1200 GR, stock arm.  I can give you a full report, but the cheap Merlot got the better of me tonight.
