Recording Vinyl to iMac questions.. I use Apogee Duet and Audacity on MacBook Pro to record vinyl. You do need to run two passes, first time to make sure there is no clipping, and second time for recording. ADC has level control, so you can connect ADC to the phonostage directly.
Pre-amp Upgrade I've owned VTL 5.5 and CJ 16LS 2. VTL creates big open dynamic sound that sparkles. CJ sounds smooth and mellow. Currently I use ARC VSi60 which is an integrated amp with passive pre. To my ears ARC sounds more transparent and musical than either ...
Sony SACD 5400 ES: how to get it in standby ? I never turn off my XA5400ES either. This is one player that I noticed takes a very long time to warm up, and sounds noticeably better after warmed up.
Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000 I haven't heard anyone talking about specific flaws about XA5400ES, other than general "I like another player better than Sony". The only complaint seems to be coming from mrtennis who don't own Sony and never even heard of it, yet seems to be ful...
Why Don't We See More High Current Electronics? I'd say it's because the designers have realized high feedback voltage source design that was popular in 80's and 90's doesn't sound that good. Amp design continues to evolve. The days of low efficiency speakers combined with high powered amp is n...
Your experience & thoughts on SSDs for MacMini SSD may sound better than magnetic HD, but it's largely irrelevant today because there isn't any SSD large enough to store the music collection. I have 600GB+ of music from CD, DVD Audio, and HDTracks. It's not practical to build a disk array to s...
Your experience & thoughts on SSDs for MacMini I don't think the difference in performance between HD and SSD will yield any measurable difference in sound quality. I do think however that there will be more noise generated by spinning magnetic disks compared to SSD with zero moving part. The ...
Your experience & thoughts on SSDs for MacMini I agree with Alex. I use a Mac at work, at home, and I prefer to use Mac to PC whenever possible. For music application it's a different story. After trying my Macbook Pro and Mac Mini, it became evident that iTunes and the Core Audio stack is opt...
Your experience & thoughts on SSDs for MacMini Computer transport is not for the faint of heart. And I don't believe computer audio will ever become plug-n-play in my lifetime. It works quite well if you know the routines. But the barrier is high enough for a lot of folks, which is unfortunate...
Your experience & thoughts on SSDs for MacMini Remember when anyone, including the girlfriend or wife, could come home and turn on the receiver and select the tuner and play music in about 5 seconds? That's what needs to become reality with server based audio.Sure, it can be achieved. My syste...
Need integrated with LOTS of WATTS I googled ATC 7, and it looks like the sensitivity is rated for 84dB @ 1W @ 1m. Yeah they are rather inefficient. I used to own Revel M20's with 87dB sensitivity, and they were fine with Classe CAP-151 and Krell 300iL integrated amps. I think you ...
Your experience & thoughts on SSDs for MacMini The only downside of SSD is the price. If you can afford SSD it's a no brainer. SSD is much much faster and completely silent. I use SSD as the main disk drive, and store the music in NAS which is hidden away in a closet. There are several generati...
Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000 Your analogy suggests because you like sauteed garlic on your broccoli, you'll put sauteed garlic on everything, like on chocolate and ice cream, before tasting them first without garlic. Yuck.
Anybody compare Mystere ia21 to ARC VSi60? I haven't heard Mystere, but ARC VSi60 is the the most musical and transparent amps I've ever had in my system.
Hard drive file management? Some programs such as JRiver has option to reorganize the files automatically based on artist and album title. No need to manually shuffle the directories. |
