Looking to get back into Vinyl. I backup the suggestions for a PS Audio GCPH. I use one with a Clearaudio Emotion (old version, no CMB) and a Grado Sonata1 Reference. The combination is extremely enjoyable. You should probably consider what type of sound you like too before gett...
Do You Love Music or Do You Love Hi-Fi? I think that most of us, prior to getting into hi-fi, are obviously mostly concerned only with music, because we haven't experienced hi-fi. Love of music is the prerequisite for entering the world of hi-fi, but I think for many of us, the hi-fi as...
The greatest MM and MI cartridges .... Allow me to chime in and share my experience with the ruby retip of the Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood.A few years ago, I purchased a used Clearaudio Emotion turntable with Virtuoso Wood here on Audiogon. Unfortunately, it arrived with a bent cantilever...
suggestions on MM to MC upgrade This is an interesting thread. I have a Clearaudio Emotion TT with Virtuoso Wood cart and really do admire its highly organic sound. I have, however, been curious about the world of moving coil. From what I've been reading, it seems like it might ...
Cambridge Dacmagic? Real improvmt or hype? I have never been able to notice a difference between coax and toslink, on either the dac magic I used to own, or my current dac, which is a PS Audio DL III. But I bet if you went and spent $1000 on a digital coax cable, you might just be able to ...
Denon 103R on a MMF-7 I hope it works out for you. I've read that the Denon carts don't always mate that well with newer tables and tonearms. I tried a standard DL-103 on my Clearaudio Emotion table with Satisfy tonearm and it sounded horrible. The phono pre was a Camb...
Tips for buying used Vinyl needed I've tried to get into mono recordings, but I just can't. I'm sure there are many that sound great, but it just doesn't sound enjoyable to my ears. I didn't mean to start a stereo/mono argument, just wanted to point out that if you don't want mono...
Tips for buying used Vinyl needed Thus far, most people have only commented on the actual condition of the album. There are many other aspects to consider about the album itself, including the recording.1) Beware of mono recordings. Some people do like mono recordings, but persona...
Raking Angle Once again, I apreciate the responses. I actually found an old expired credit card and cut a small slab to use as a spacer. This helped to modify the raking angle. So far, it seems to have improved the sound. I was able insert the spacer without a...
Raking Angle I think the spacer would be the most logical choice. Any ideas on what would make a good spacer? I'm thinking maybe take some sheet metal, measure, and cut. Could insert more than one piece to get to the desired angle.
Raking Angle Thanks for the input. I have tried in the past to get the stylus as close to perpendicular as possible, but the height of the cartridge along with the angle of the cantilever makes it nearly impossible to achieve this. I have increased the trackin...
SS integrated amp that has tube like qualities I seem to think that it will be very difficult to find a SS amp that portrays the very best qualities of tubes, but there may be some that come close. I recommend listening to something from Red Wine Audio. My dad just upgraded to a pair of the ne...
12ax7 12AU7 EL34 / KT 88/ 6550 upgrades for PL2 I've only tried the stock KT88s so far. I'd like to go for some Gold Lion KT88s eventually, but I've read that some people have reliability issues with them.I'm not sure if the Popes are the same as the dutch amperex tubes. Adding the Popes added ...
12ax7 12AU7 EL34 / KT 88/ 6550 upgrades for PL2 I am currently using SED "winged" 6550Cs, along with NOS Pope 12ax7, and stock 12au7. The Popes are absolutely fantastic if you can find them. Mine were purchased from Upscale Audio. I do prefer the sound of the KT88 over the SED 6550s. Like anoth...
PrimaLuna ProLogue Two - mixing tubes? Thanks for the input guys. Running one 6550 and one KT88 per channel certainly sounds different than running all 4 tubes as the same type. As I would expect, it sounds like a cross between the 6550 and KT88. Running all 6550s, the sound is nice, b... |
