Levinson No. 23 with Thiel 3.6? I used a Levinson 23 with Thiel 3.5's several years ago.I never could tame brightness or harshness in the system, which I think was due more to the speakers than the amp.The #23 is a fairly neutral solid state amp (some say"dark" but I did not find...
Mark Levinson ML1 pre and Audio Research d100 I can't speak to the ARC amp, though I did own a D125a few years back. The ML1 is an excellent preamp. If in excellent/near mint condition you might get $1000for it. I think I sold mine to a gentleman in Japan forabout $900 a few years back. Frank...
i need a power conditioner. monster? Look at the Furman balanced power units. I use oneand am very satisfied.
New Magnepan 1.6's vs. old IIIA's I owned MG-IIIa's about 10 years ago, and currently have1.6QR's. The IIIa's have the ribbon tweeter which maygive slightly better extension at the top but the 1.6'shave a more coherent sound. Overall the 1.6 is a better speaker in my opinion.
Maggies...Measured Amp Power Requirements I don't believe the improvements were strictly that the335 amp is "better" than the 27.5, which has been regardedas one of the most refined and musical amps ever producedby Madrigal. I was not anxious to dispose of the 27.5because of its musicalit...
Maggies...Measured Amp Power Requirements I have 1.6QR's and originally used a Mark Levinson 27.5amp (200 W/Chan @ 4 ohms). It sounded good but notoutstanding. At higher levels it sounded constricted witha loss of dynamics. I sold the 27.5 and got an ML 335(500 W/Chan) which greatly impro...
Ever hear the "Maggie Scream"? I have 1.6's and I've never heard such a thing. My suspicion is that it's the power amp.
Best Subwoofer for Magnepan speakers The Rel Strata III works beautifully with my 1.6QRspeakers. The current version is the Strata 5.
Mark Levinson CD Players. You might consider getting an ML 360 or 360S to replaceyour 36S. The 360-series uses newer topology and isreputedly better than the 36/36S. I have a 37/360 comboand think it sounds excellent. I previously had a Wadia2000 DAC which was very nice bu...
Levinson 27 Vs. Aleph 5 for PSB Goldi I've owned both (actually, the 27.5 and Aleph 5). Bothwere excellent amps though my preference was the 27.5as it provides better bass control than the Aleph. The27.5 was reputedly an improvement over the 27 so it maynot be a completly fair compari...
Any superb balanced dacs up to $2,500 used?? Mark Levinson 360 runs about that used. I've been usingone for several years and find it excellent: highlyresolving without being harsh, excellent bass, expansivesoundstage, three-dimensional.
Tact RCS 2.0 Room Correction Preamp I'm using my RCS 2.0S only for room correction. It hasboth the A/D and D/A convertors. I am using the A/D formy turntable input, but I'm outputting my Levinson #37transport directly to the RCS. I'm using a Levinson #360DAC for conversion of the di...
anyone know actual output of mark levinson 27.5? The 27.5 is an excellent amp, but for speakers requiringlots of current (like my Magnepans) the 27.5 can seemanemic. I sold it and got a 335 (500 W/chan @ 4 ohms) andthe dynamics were greatly improved. I agree with Ellery, spend a little more and g...
