Old ARC tube amps
I am with Frap on this one, I have heard very few tube MAC's that I thought sounded as good as Audio Research, though I am fond of the 30's and the 230's, but that was before Audio Research was founded.

Cheap Thrills Dynaco A25 vs Sound Dynamics300ti?
A25 was a very good speaker, the the 300 should sound better, especially in the low end, a place where the A25 was lacking. The rest should be better as well, but the bass would be the 1st thing most would notice. It will be different sounding spe...
What's the deal with Adcom GTP 760 going so cheap?
Technology(most of the time) and marketing(all the time) strategy changes rapidly in hot markets, and home theatre is the hottest of the audio markets at the moment, and Adcom and its retailers have done very well financially by staying up with th...
Thorens 125 MkII: MM or MC cartridge? What's diff?
Nice to see someone taking 15 minutes out of their day to explain cartridges like this. Sweet piece of work.
Best preamp for Dynaco 70: Tube, SS, or passive?
Clueless has it, there are no best. Consideration is whether you need phono or not, though you probably would not be considering a passive if you did(duh on my part. Probably I would be looking for and inexpensive active ss, adds a little bass con...
Vintage Speakers KEF 104/2
Pbredi, you hit it on the head, I have lived in Texas and now in Nashville, and if they sit in the garage or attic long enough in Texas, the whole damn thing will rot, melt and fall apart, cause damn, it does get hot and humid in those places. No s...
Average age of audiophiles
Mental or physical?
Vintage Speakers KEF 104/2
But the glue does age and lose its bonding abilities from the surrounds and from the area where the cone and spider meet, the actual stress areas and some of the rubber surrounds do fail and fatigue through the years, I just had that problem with a...
Vintage Speakers KEF 104/2
I have had a few pair over the years, was and still is a very good speaker for the money spent. IF they sound right to you, highly unlikely there are any problems other than the obvious, surrounds etc.
Is a deal a deal?
The only thing I don't like about reading this thread and another one that is currently going is the apparant distrust being shown. Let me say I have been truly burned exactly one time in what I am sure is over 500 deals, and even then I just thin...
Feedback does not alway tell all
KP, nowhere did I say your experiences were unique. I consider them fairly common. That is the point I am making. In this case, for whatever reason the guy doesn't seem to want to do business with you, at least right now. And price or percieved va...
Shipping amps overseas
Call your local Nippon Express Freight Company. They have a branch(Pelican Express) that will deliver door to door to most countries, and in this case I would think it will be around $250. They will also deliver to just the major ports or airports...
Feedback does not alway tell all
You can do what you want, but IMHO, that is kind of a silly approach. 1st, I don't know where everyone gets the idea that all e mail reach their PROPER final destination. You dont know if he accidently deleted before read, whether it got misrouted...
McIntosh transistor tuners....any good ones?
Glad some else pointed out the MR 78 is solid state.Having just today sold an MR 78, I will tell you that probably the people at the tunerinfo website said it best, and I am paraphrasing "if you want a very good tuner, have the money to spend, wan...
