Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
I bought a pair of Dunlavy SC 3's eleven years ago. I have a little subwoofer (VS1 10", self powered) so I am covered on the low end. I hardly use the sub and I'll keep these speakers forever!
Sony PS-X7 direct drive, slipping at 33 RPM
Lewm and Johnss, thanks very much for your input. I really appreciate it. I'll start looking into finding an electronics shop that can do this sort of stuff. best regards
Sony PS-X7 direct drive, slipping at 33 RPM
Ekobesky. Wow, what a fast and thorough response. I do have the old manual, and I even think I have the shematics. I'll take a look to address your suggestions. Thank you much!!!
Shipping Dunlavy SC 3's
Thanks, Pryso. I'm leaning more towards the moving company. They specialize in antiques as well. I'll mention the heavy gauge plastic too.

VPI 300 RPM motor clicking when starts
I, too, have the same clicking sound on my Scoutmaster. At first I thought it was the belt. Concurrent with turning on the motor, I also help lesson the start-up load by giving the record platter a little twist. But I have also had the same noise ...
How Many Turntables Have You Owned
Great thread, String!1974-present; Pioneer PL 12-DSony PS X-7 DD; (bought on 'Gon last year. It's circa 1976 and it's in my "vintage" system).2007-present; VPI Scoutmaster.
What's the Best LP You Bought in 2008
"The Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus", Spirit. The sonics on this LP blew away the SACD version. This band was way ahead of the curve for that era (late 60's, early 70's). You should hear what these guys did with old fashioned analogue recording an...
When cantilever not parallel to cartridge sides
Dear Audiofeil,In the one short year that I was able to cull together an anologue set-up, I've relied heavily on these forums. There have been plenty of helpful veterans, like yourself, whose advice I have cherished and benefitted from. I have als...
VPI Headshell weight question
I too had to add a headshell wieght to my JMW 9 on my Scoutmaster. I installed it on top of the headshell. Although it doesn't look the greatest, it didn't require that I screw around with tone arm height. I did have to re-check alignment, azimyth...
VPI Scoutmaster is showing signs of life
Glad to hear that you are finally liking what you are "hearing". I too have a Scoutmaster. When I found a Sonic Frontiers SFP1 Signature phono pre-amp for sale, I snatched it up. I had a technician replace the caps (don't know which one's he used)...
Anyone NOT like the sound of VPI?
I have a "budget buster" set-up, with a Scoutmaster as my turntable. I don't have SDS, I don't have the periphial ring, I don't have the super platter and I don't have any measuring gadgets to analyze the sound spectrum, save for my ears. I run th...
Migration to Seperates
Jimmy,For 6 to 8k, I would say that the Audiogon world is your oyster! It all boils down to personal taste. And personal taste in this hobby varies widely from individual to individual.I was also a "budding" musician, and still play feverishly (bu...
