Just Turned 50...
Just turned 54 myself. I've always had sensitive hearing: can hear trains in the distance long before anyone else can. I can hear the squirrels jaw chomping on acorns at the top of a 60 foot oak. Although I am sure if I had a hearing test 10 years...
What started you on your audiophile journey .
My journey started when I was about 5 years old; sitting on the floor in front of an old Magnovox mono record player console with a single 6 inch speaker as I was banging away on an old tattered paperback book with a pair of drumsticks while a Bea...
Is there an average life span for a preamp?
Joe, I've had the same pre-amp for going on 13 years. I have not had one bit of a problem. I can't believe how good that little thing sounds. Unlike you, however, I'm not really fond of the "passive" mode. But I'm glad that you like it. I can't be...
Solid State CD Player under $2000
I agree with Bar81. Check out the Oppo BDP-95. It's resolution, staging and presence are miles above anything in it's price range. Plus, it's a universal player that gives you tons of options. I bought it primarily as a two-channel audio playback ...
Do you remember your first cd?
"Atavachron" by Alan Holdsworth. I think it was his first venture into the guitar synthesizer. It was released in 1986. The CD sounded great then, and and sounds fine on my current rig. That guy can tear up a guitar; then AND now.
Still great after all these years-Dunlavy SC IVs
Jdurrett, I'll bet your system sounds great. Hold on to those SC 4's. I have had a pair of SC 3's for 12 years. And although my amps, pre-amps, turntable and digital have all been upgraded since then, I'd never get rid of the Dunlavys. I can imagi...
What companies, out of Business, did you LOVE???
I have to add to the Dunlavy fan club. I bought a pair of SC 3's in 1998. And I still have them. Everything else has changed down the line, but not my treasured Dunlavys. They just sound fantastic: clear, clean, precise, quick, revealing; those sp...
Tyler Decades Not much press but how good?
Jfondell,Iraq? My goodness. That's a big scene change from your sweet spot in front of your new D1's. Get home safe. And good luck with your new speakers. Best Regards!
If upgrades were no longer possible would you be
I haven't changed a thing in years, and don't plan to. I'm happy.

Which purchase tipped you into nirvana.
....buying a used pair of Dunlavy SC3's and upgrading from an integrated amp to seperate amp/pre-amp. I can't tell you how good those speakers sound: the clarity, depth, and articulation never cease to amaze me. I bought those speakers 12 years ag...

Traditional Brands vs. "Audiophile" Brands
"Aptquark, you had me laughing out loud for five minutes!"Mitch, I had you beat by laughing an additional five minutes!
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
I bought a pair of Dunlavy SC 3's eleven years ago. I have a little subwoofer (VS1 10", self powered) so I am covered on the low end. I hardly use the sub and I'll keep these speakers forever!
