Need help choosing spkrs I've never heard Triller,Only ever buy speakers you can hear in your own home and system.Find a Hi Fi dealer who will allow you to try at least 3 different speakers after hearing a range of them in their showroom. There are just too many variables.Speakers deprecia...
Yamaha NS-1000M Japosey,You are absolutely right in what you say.You think you are happy with something and then you hear something else with a different set of strengths and this captures your imagination. For many of us once we hear really good imaging which is ...
Yamaha NS-1000M Japosey,You are right when you say that domes provide you with a wider sweet spot but you get a bigger sweet spot of lesser quality.I built some speakers using Cabasse DOM 12 midranges. These sound superb but simply don't image, even when time alig...
Yamaha NS-1000M Here goes again.Speakers that use dome midranges do not image well.It took me some years of building speakers to realise this.I have built and owned several speakers with dome mids and have listened closely to both the Yamaha NS1000 and NS1200 spe...
WILL THE NEW 60,000 AVALON ISIS BE THE BEST YET? Sorry guys but paying anything like this much for dynamic speakers seems crazy to me.These speakers are inherently flawed devices in that they only radiate sound forwards.Go and listen to an acoustic band.Things like violins and guitars radiate so...
WILL THE NEW 60,000 AVALON ISIS BE THE BEST YET? So what is the component cost of these speakers?More Accuton drivers thrown in a box with about 500% mark up!This sort of stuff should not be encouraged.JT
High end amp - my last step Hi,My advice is to sort your preamp first because you simply can't get great sound with a really good power amp and an average preamp whereas you can get great sound with a really good preamp and an average power amp.I know this goes against all t...
Accuphase A-30 or P-3000 for Klipschorns? To use anything other than a tube amp with these speakers would be crazy. They will brutally reveal just how flawed transistor amps sound.Even a Sonic Impact T amp would sound a lot better[digital]and be free of the transistor nasties.JT
ribbon tweeters The best thing is to run ribbons together with a dome tweeter. This gives the best of both.I note Dali is now doing this. The ribbons sound best above 7k.Try using just a 2.2 mF cap for an 8 ohm ribbon and sit it on top of your speaker.JT
Looking For Single Source Tube Preamp Hi,I,m with Nsgarch on this one.Harshness can often be tamed with different cabling. The first thing to try would be solid core copper speaker cable rather than stranded. Solid core lighting cable can sound excellent and is very cheap from electric...
Preamp Deal of the Century Kenji, thanks for the information.Sounds like I need to try some of the TJ PX4 at some stage.I have a third set of speakers -open baffle[1964 Wharfedale above 250hz] and then crossing to titanium and ribbon tweeters around 3.5 k.Although the midran...
Preamp Deal of the Century Hi Kenji,The TJ does have a big bass but I am bi-amping so can attenuate it a bit.I have been listening to both the TJ and the EH and am starting to prefer the TJ-the mid is much nicer although the EH is very new and might free up in time.Yet to t...
Preamp Deal of the Century I get some microphonics if I tap on the chasis but this settles down quickly and certainly does not intrude on the music. My speakers are 98db sensitivity so show up problems like this.I used to have a Lux power amp that had bad microphonics.I sold...
Preamp Deal of the Century Thanks for the welcome Stiltskin and Slowhand. The first time I heard a Supratek preamp was a revelation. Most audiophiles seem to spend a lot of time effort and money "upgrading" without ever really improving the long term satisfaction that they ge...
Preamp Deal of the Century G'day everyone. This is my first post here.I took delivery of my Cabernet two days ago and am enjoying it immensely.I guess I am one of the lucky ones because I live near Supratek and Mick has been very patient and helpful in assisting me to decide... |
