What is an Audiophile? Here's the list for newbies.
An Audiophile is a productive way of being an escapist and personal isolationist. And you know you’re an audiophile when an ‘audio buddy’ becomes the US rep/distributor for a hot brand. Or when manufacturers email you to ask if they will be seeing...
Jay's Audio transport
I can relate and possibly accurately imagine how that was made ‘quite clear’ to you. I’ve been on the other end of one of those before.  Jay’s now has their own international online ‘store’ and  last I checked the “US rep” did not have the CD2 (or...
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age?
George,ah, ok! Exactly the clarification I needed to make sure I was following. Thank you so very much for your help!
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age?
@georgehifi im not the most technical...so I need to make sure I’m understanding and what I’m asking them... So what you’re saying is that you are not sure if the balanced XLR outputs might load (or flip?) phase differently IF the SE output ALSO h...
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age?
George, the AMR DAC was many years ago.The Denafrips Terminator DAC I have now has single ended and XLR outputs. The SE outputs are going to an active preamp. I’m hoping to use the XLR outputs of the DAC to the Hattor passive pre, then SE out of t...
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age?
^ I should clarify... XLR out of DAC -as well as- SE out of DAC. That is not meant read a daisychaining two preamps.
Have Passive Preamps Finally Come of Age?
Hey Passive peeps! I feel like I read something about this but I can’t find it right away... howdo we feel about XLR out of DAC > Passive > SE out to SE amp??? Any downsides, asumming the rest of the scenario is working well?? Id like to use...
Double blind test- over a month- could this be a reliable test for any equipment?
Audio is a thousand little religions, all of them right, and all of them wrong.I once read that a/b-ing by switching back and forth during a track was the quickest way to missread true differences (as opposed to whole track with A, then whole trac...
TOSLINK Optical Signal Splitting?
I’m doing it old school / by hand. I have each optical cable into their DACs and have positioned the cables closely at the source for a quick hotswap with very little cable movement. It’s working good, as optical is not the serious listening path ...
DENAFRIPS DAC ---- Owner Impressions, Feedback, General Discussion, Questions and more....
^^ Great review! IMO it speaks to why the Terminator DAC can work so well in a warmish tube based system or with warmish speakers.
Harbelth HL5plus
These British monitors are very interesting and they are probably great. I’ve never gone there because I’ve been told they need to be be played at high spl for giving their best.I’ve never heard that about Harbeth. And doesn’t that kinda go agains...
Harbelth HL5plus
Even though I own Harbeth, also check out the Graham LS5/8 or LS5/9.
Vibration Isolation
In my experience too much rubber of any sort under too many pieces of gear in one system can mess with timing (PRaT), darken the sound up too much and/or slow or loosen the bass too much. Took me a few years to work the rubber/cork/rubber out of m...
Is it still possible to upgrade an AMR DP-777 to SE?
Glad I was wrong. And hope you get to have your DAC upgraded.
