Looking for a new power amp - choosing between T + A, Atoll, Rogue I would definitely consider another dealer if you cannot demo these pieces in your system before purchase. Considering the amplifier can make a massive difference even at similar price points, I'd recommend trying a few at the same time so you ca...
My Favorite Tweaks, What is yours? Shunyata power conditioner has to be my favorite tweak. The Gemini 8 in my studio probably cost a little more than what I'd call a "tweak" but I purchased an MPC-12 Shunyata power conditioner on usaudiomart that was $650 and put my living room sy...
Why most $3000 and lower DAC’s sound almost identical @shadorne thank you for this info! I had the Gustard R26 for a while and it was a nice sounding unit so I am interested in other technologies from the same group. I don't currently have a way to run DSD that I know of - I prefer streaming from T...
Why most $3000 and lower DAC’s sound almost identical I'd love to hear if anyone that is a fan of the T+A D200 in their system likes a comparable DAC in the sub $5k or $3k range. Hungry for that sound but don't wanna pay the big bucks nah mean? K thread hijack over
Why most $3000 and lower DAC’s sound almost identical Maybe your system isn't very sensitive to DAC changes? I have noticed massive differences between say a Gustard R26 vs a Topping D90 vs a yamaha receiver vs many other DACs. Tried probably 10 different DACs in that price range and noticed some h...
Has anyone switched from Class AB/A to Class D? Was it better? Was it worse? @hbarrel always a good point in these sorts of discussions. Ultimately that is all that matters. However, discussing brands and topology can be a fruitful conversation if people always remember the point you bring up as they discuss these things...
Has anyone switched from Class AB/A to Class D? Was it better? Was it worse? As others have mentioned, it seems the topology of the amplifier isn’t what’s important but the implementation. I really enjoy both my Class A Pass Labs XA30.8 and my Class D Primare A60. They each have a different sound. The Primare almost sou...
Amps.. Is Odyssey worth it? My Kismet amp in a Khartago case has been pretty awesome sounding although I could never get it absolutely silent and in my treated studio that is an issue. I think it may be partially due to the high sensitivity of the amp but can't be sure. I ...
Best DAC you ever heard list. 1.Budget under 1k 2. Mid Under 5k 3. Cost no Object. Under 1k- used RME Under 5k- Gustard r26 or RME Over 5k - T&A D200 I have experience with maybe 30 DACs in my systems at various times so not a ton but enough to have an opinion. That T&A was really special
Picking speakers 3000-5000 budget Tekton Double Impacts with upgrades. Done. Absolutely stunning sound in my opinion and well within your budget. Find a used pass labs or high end parasound and you're done. Until you start messing with cabling and conditioners. Fun journey 😄
Anyone else constantly curious about amps? @jasonbourne71 the weekly reminder from Jason Bourne for all of you dummies that think amps sound different. Jason have you ever been in a legit treated room with multiple amps with similar distortion curves and tested them? I'd guess not. So p...
Listening Room or Components or my ears? There are so many ways to remedy this but I will attempt to give you the easiest vs the most comprehensive solution. As others have recommended, getting panels on your first reflection points may help with this issue. I would recommend gik acous...
Power Cords/ Conditioner/Surge Protectors OP, do you have a hifi shop nearby? This is always the best advice given imo: demo some gear!!! Do not buy blindly online. Find someone close that deals in Shunyata gear or whatever you're interested in. Those that say power cords and power con...
Have you reached your end point with this addictive hobby? I have two systems I'm extremely pleased with. One is my studio set up for my work (EDM producer, audio engineer, mastering engineer), and for my mains, I continue to find improvements. Just recently went from an Odyssey Kismet amp to a Pass labs...
The Audio Science Review (ASR) approach to reviewing wines. This thread cannot die. It has been so utterly entertaining @samureyex @knownothing thanks for posting my exact thoughts. Making it super easy for me over here |
