Power Help - What Conditioner - WHERE?
@ghdprentice spot on If you don't have separate lines, then plug audio gear into your best conditioning device and everything else into a separate one, such as a surge protector etc.  Preferably they would be on separate lines but otherwise anoth...
What to upgrade from a Kef ls50 meta?
I would definitely try to audition some speakers at a local hifi shop if that's available.  They may even let you borrow some to try in your space before you buy.  So hard for strangers in the internet to determine the right speaker for you.  What...
MBL Insolvent
@kerrybh well said and good riposte to JasonBourne's ultimatum  Ultimately value is in the eye of the beholder.  I have no problem with people buying high end stuff.  I know people with systems that cost more than 10x their car.  Priorities and i...
Streamer recommendation
I agree with those saying stick with Aurender but I also like the comment to try the Wiim.  It's about $300 to see if it can save you a ton.  And the app rocks for sure.  I suggest buying a few streamers or borrowing some from a hifi shop and see ...
Battle of the affordables
None of the above.  I prefer a live and realistic sound.  Tekton Design is my vote for whatever price.  Have heard most of the speakers on your list and they don't have a sense of realism that I like in speakers.  Tekton double impacts 3k and buy ...
Seeking Advice to Improve My Audio System ($1000 Budget)
OP, I'm glad you decided to do some trialing instead of just purchasing something based on someone else's experience.  I highly recommend you start looking at used components as well though.  A new system is going to cost twice as much to get the ...
Best Receiver for “Mid-Fi” System?
I love my Yamaha A4A.  I use external amps as well but the receiver has a decent amp in it, although I'd be using it mainly for the preouts to a separate amp.  You can get a Yamaha factory refurb A4A straight from accessories4less for $749.  This ...
Seeking Advice to Improve My Audio System ($1000 Budget)
If you're unsatisfied with the sound your system is providing, yes speakers would be the most significant upgrade. Do you live in an area with audio dealers or with a solid craigslist / FB marketplace?  If you really want to stay under $1000 and ...
Havelock Wool acoustic panels vs fiberglass/Rockwool
Is there a concern about the rockwool or other insulation being breathed in?  Are you not double covering the panels?  I used white batting and then guilford of Maine for my first reflections.  I can't see any insulation particles making its way t...
Looking for a new power amp - choosing between T + A, Atoll, Rogue
I would definitely consider another dealer if you cannot demo these pieces in your system before purchase.  Considering the amplifier can make a massive difference even at similar price points, I'd recommend trying a few at the same time so you ca...
My Favorite Tweaks, What is yours?
Shunyata power conditioner has to be my favorite tweak.  The Gemini 8 in my studio probably cost a little more than what I'd call a "tweak" but I purchased an MPC-12 Shunyata power conditioner on usaudiomart that was $650 and put my living room sy...
Why most $3000 and lower DAC’s sound almost identical
@shadorne thank you for this info!  I had the Gustard R26 for a while and it was a nice sounding unit so I am interested in other technologies from the same group.  I don't currently have a way to run DSD that I know of - I prefer streaming from T...
Why most $3000 and lower DAC’s sound almost identical
I'd love to hear if anyone that is a fan of the T+A D200 in their system likes a comparable DAC in the sub $5k or $3k range.  Hungry for that sound but don't wanna pay the big bucks nah mean?  K thread hijack over
Why most $3000 and lower DAC’s sound almost identical
Maybe your system isn't very sensitive to DAC changes?  I have noticed massive differences between say a Gustard R26 vs a Topping D90 vs a yamaha receiver vs many other DACs.  Tried probably 10 different DACs in that price range and noticed some h...
Has anyone switched from Class AB/A to Class D? Was it better? Was it worse?
@hbarrel always a good point in these sorts of discussions.  Ultimately that is all that matters. However, discussing brands and topology can be a fruitful conversation if people always remember the point you bring up as they discuss these things...
