Cable burn in
Of course: anything the Church of Denyin'tology's popes can't fathom, they'll summarily dismiss (uneducated twits that they are). "As I already mentioned, this characterization doesn't apply to me. I'm an educated professional in a relevant fie...
Gain / Amplification
This is interesting.  I have a server with software interface volume setting for fixed or variable feeding my DAC ( no vc). Although variable control would be more convenient as my tube preamp has a manual stepped attenuator I set software to fixe...
Cable burn in
And the FACT is that when a cable is intelligently designed and manufactured with quality raw materials and meets the purpose of transmitting the audio signal as transparently as possible while faithfully reproducing the recorded signal through th...
Cable burn in
@chiadrum  Mogami is high quality cable, in one word transparent the way any cable should be. Its use in many professional recording and broadcast studios speaks to the quality. These are environments where the BS and sales hype of overpriced cab...
Cable design is a lot like creating a pizza
"It serves to illustrate how ridiculous cable design is. Especially if they can’t explain what they’ve done Beyond marketing rhetoric. This also applies to preamplifiers and amplifiers. And here even more complicated, and many are profoundly conf...
Why not?
+1 @mrskeptic  Oh but they spent over 1000 dollars on that power cord so it must've improved the sound of their amplifier. Yeah....
Which device makes for a better digital music source? Computer or streamer?
I don't stream in my listening room.  Uncompressed flac or wav files are stored on a ssd in a small form factor i5 running Euphony Stylus OS. DAC is a Bifrost 2. I'd have to spend many thousands more in hopes for a marginal improvement with a dedi...
Monstrous power cables
@erik_squires I agree. Much can be done prior to the wall outlet as well as from the outlet to the gear and with minimal investment. Dedicated circuits are a must. Gear should be protected from surge with a good quality line conditioning surge pro...
Cd transport
@jasonbourne52 I agree to a point, however....the same grade fuel from the same pump, although making any engine run yields different performance. I think between different players the internal components although spitting out the same bits to a ...
Disappointing short life of NOS preamp tube
In 2003 I ordered three NOS Mullard CV4003 (12AU7) for the preamp I was building. Average about 16 hours per week for roughly 16000 hours to date and still going strong. I tested all my tubes last month and these three still have close numbers. I ...
No frills speaker manufacturers
+1 @daledeee1  Crites packages are a great bargain. The Type B I also built for 2k will run with the Cornwall IV all day long. I swapped out the Sonicaps on the crossover board for 40 bucks worth of NOS Russian PIO and couldn't be happier..
Higher amperage fuse for sound quality
@1971gto455ho  Amen to the common sense practical thinkers here. More are needed.
Do you build anything for your high fidelity system? If so, what do you make?
I built the 14x20 listening room in 07. Built GG tube preamp, restored Dynaco ST-70,  built Crites Type B "Cornscala's", made speaker cables and interconnects with Mogami cable and made wood framed absorption panels with 2×24×48" fiberglass covere...

5AR4 rectifier tube question
@dinov Agreed. Especially silly is the delusional assumption that they effect sound more than driver tubes that actually have audio signal running through them. They rectify...period, converting AC to DC. The differences may be how consistently ...
