Phono/Preamp Discussion: The Missing Link
You could buy a Leben phono preamp and use it with a SUT. I have heard it with an Auditorium SUT. Very good sound.
Sota Sapphire S/N- 14,584--- Saved from trash
Look on vinyl engine.
Conrad Johnson TEA 2--step up transformer
What cartridge are you planning to use?Bob's Devices makes a number of reasonably priced SUTs.You could also consider an auditorium homage at a higher price point.
Pro-Ject turntables
Another thought for you in the Pro-ject line is ordering an Xtension 12 without the arm and using an Ortofon RS-309D tonearm.I have a couple of friends using that setup with Ortofon SPU cartridges. They are both very happy with the combination
Skeptics believe:cartridge makes a HUGE difference
I think most believe the cartridge makes a significant difference. Although what Pops said, "I got the same quantum leap when I upgraded my tonearm on my Basis table to the Vector 4. I was shocked." would involve more skepticism from others.I also...
Thinking about getting into vinyl again...
Ctsooner"Well, my day has finally arrived. Tomorrow John from Audio Connections will be delivering my Vandy Treo's along with my Heed Quasar Phono stage and my Basis 1400, Basis/Rega 300/Micro Benz Glider"Great setup, when you can swing it upgrade...
Wanting to simplify my system ......
I don't know if it is enough power, but VAC makes an integrated amp with phono inputs. You could also just get the audio research 20 preamp and use the built in phono, but you would still have the amps, so not as tidy.
Opinions on bang for the buck on TT & tonearm
A used Basis turntable would be a competitor here. With a $6,000 budget you could get a 2200 with Vector 4 tonearm and have funds for an excellent cartridge. You also need a good phono stage if you don't already have one.
Thomas Mayer 46 SE tube AMP? What's it worth
Subscribe to the Audiogon blue book service. Most, if not all, of these items will be included.
New Speakers To Buy
Without knowing your budget I would recommend a used pair of Proac Response 2.5. A lot of performance for a little less than $2,000.
How quiet is your Rogue Sphinx?
You indicate that you purchased this new. You should take it back to the dealer (if you bought it locally), and if the problem exists when the dealer hooks it up they need to address the issue. If it can't be duplicated, the dealer should be able ...
Father's Day For An Audiophile
This year I received a Nixie tube clock. Only audio related in that it has tubes, but I love equipment with tubes.http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=nixie+tube+clock&qpvt=nixie+tube+clock&FORM=IGRE#view=detail&id=1C9B2DAC68636CB6739C4...
Buying from first time seller
I would use Paypal, COD or local pickup. I would not pay with a wire transfer. Your comments about a legal case may be true, but what you want is the item you purchased or your money returned.Lawsuits are expensive other than small claims and thos...
Nelson Reed Speakers
You can go to the industry lookup here and there is a link to a website (http://manskerconsulting.com/audio/index.html)with some information. As far as I know the company is no longer in business. I don't think resale will be more than a few hundr...
Counterpoint, Modwright, Aesthetix sound?
I would get a Quicksilver, or at a higher price point an Art Audio Alana. Both are great preamps. I think the Alana has better definition and imaging. The Aesthetix is not really "warm".None of the above are known for catching fire, so if you want...
