Modwright PH 9.0X Compared to a Pass Labs XP-15
I've gone from an Xono, to the Herron VPTPH-2A, then for a very short time to the XP-15 before settling on the Pass XP-17. In my system, which is all Pass with a Spiral Groove front end and My Sonic cart, it is super duper nice. I liked the Herro...
Two vs four subwoofers for music playback
I went from no subs to a Distributed Bass Array and I will never, ever go back. My system was set up professionally. Meaning, I paid someone who knows what they're doing and he used acoustical software to dial everything in. There was no guessing...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@bslon thanks for the Kurt Vile tip. Missed this one.
What does a subwoofer solve?
@m-db "A host of individually unique room issues can easily be solved depending on the flexibility and level of control ..." 100% agree. And I've experienced it first-hand with a DBA. Getting this right brings a night and day change. It is that ...

Solid State Phono Stages
@pindac it's amazing what system synergy can do. it's right there with turntable set-up, speaker positioning etc. it's valuable to have a written, concrete example like you shared. it's also good to be surprised. 😁
Solid State Phono Stages
I used to have an Xono before moving to the XP-15. I currently have the XP-17. While I loved the Xono, the later Pass phono stages are head and shoulders above it. I don't think you can get an XP-27 for $8K, but if you can find it at that price I...
After years of separates, I'm going integrated. Anyone else do the same?
"If you wish to retire your Pass power amp (if you had it) at 1/3 price, I will take it.  Let me know please." I've been down this road. I had an Aleph 5 that I still kick myself for selling. I doubt I'll ever part with the XA-60.5s. I'm not one...
After years of separates, I'm going integrated. Anyone else do the same?
"Did he recommend or say anything about the INT 250?" No, he did not. He only ended by saying, You know John Atkinson said the XA-60.5 is the best-sounding amp he's ever used... "One would never know until he listens to the gear in the system." ...

After years of separates, I'm going integrated. Anyone else do the same?
I explored moving from my Pass XP-22 and XA-60.5s to the INT 60. (I also have the XP-17 phono stage.) So, I reached out to Kent @Pass for his thoughts. (I've know him for a quite while.) He basically said it could be viable but in terms of sonic ...
Has the cost of HiFi gotten a bit too much?
"Has the cost of HiFi gotten a bit too much." That's a question of opinion. Certainly, the audio market tracks closely to other luxury goods markets. I'm a bit amazed you can spend 100K on a watch or any number of things, like an amplifier. But i...
Why do folks spend more on electronics than on speakers?
Generally, one has more electronics--turntable/arm/cart, pre amp, phono stage, and amps (if mono or for subs). Whereas you can only have one set of speakers. Meanwhile, do we also include cables, power cords and power conditioners? I also go by t...
