what cd player ?
Lots of folks getting out of CDs and into streaming makes it a good time to buy a used CD player. Here’s a Naim CD-5i for $1200: An Ayre CX7 for $1100:
Difference in Using Mono-blocs with Maggie 20.7's
It's certainly worth a try those are as you know fairly power hungry speakers, and quite transparent. Some good advice above not to expect a sea change short of changing brands or going in a radically different direction. It should be asked what a...
Pontus 2 not working.
Do you have a transport or other device you can try running into the Pontus? If you tried the Lumin through it's Dac then you tried its analog outputs and not it's digital output.
Quobuz subscription
@czarivey I like the sound of Qobuz but have never listened to either of those 2 artists I have Seychelles queued up for later will report back.
Synthesis 27AC vs COINCIDENT DYNAMO 34SE MKIII
Sure thing I've never owned an AN amp my dealer is Deja Vu Audio and they make great custom tube amps from a mix of vintage and new parts. I ran an EL34 stereo amp they built for 15 years at 20 years of age it gave out. So I picked up an older 2a3...
Jazz for aficionados
If you guys want a good current trio to see/hear check out Emmet Cohen with Bruce Harris and Ruben Fox. Caught these guys last September at Birdland it was a great show.
What I wish I knew before starting my audiophile journey
Nice little speakers @switzer145 and not that difficult to drive Rega and Naim would be natural partners who make all in one solutions. Croft for a more bare bones approach with better sound would work also.
Audiphile Press: Am I jaded, experienced, or has it declined?
I will say I do enjoy reviews by Christian Punter at Hifi Advice he's always very thorough in his reviews.
What I wish I knew before starting my audiophile journey
LOL @viridian for some of us the hot chicks wouldn't talk to us so we were left with our stereos. 🤣 On the topic of gear churning it can be both stressful and fun. I started churning back in 2000 and over a 6 year period turned over so many amps,...
Expensive Dac to keep or cheaper and change overtime

Synthesis 27AC vs COINCIDENT DYNAMO 34SE MKIII
I am currently running a Synthesis Essence stereo amp, 25 watts from two pairs of 6l6/5881 tubes. It's on loan from Deja Vu in fact and sounds excellent powering my AN/J's. No personal experience with Coincident or the 27AC specifically.
Expensive Dac to keep or cheaper and change overtime
A good sounding DAC is a good sounding DAC full stop for me. I am currently using a 12 or so year old DAC, the Yamamoto YDA-1 and it sounds fantastic. I don't personally care about hi-rez recordings but it can do 24/96 when I come across it. No pl...
Help. System sounds thin and bright or harsh
Try plugging your amp straight into the wall with the after market cord you were previously using. Plugging the amp into a power conditioner was a big no non which you realize now.
Worth upgrading my cables?
Try an easy experiment find an interesting used interconnect, the easiest cable to change, and drop it in your system and see what you think. Buying used you can always resell the cable if you don't like it or hear no difference.
