Am I right for this forum? Having spent less than $3k on you main system sounds more like bragging about being a good bargain hunter. I tend to do that too. What's the retail price?
New expensive power cord for amp and no change in sound? If power cords really made a big difference wouldn't component manufacturers be putting better stock cords on? Are there any component manufacturers that put anything other than standard plastic covered cords in the box?
Preamp - what's the purpose? In my experience a pre is a clear improvement. I assume there are situations where it isn't but the first time I put one in my system I was close to shocked. I believe I was running a pair of Classe CA-200s bridged mono in addition to a pair of ...
Are there other people like me ? Amazed by their low cost system :) Around 2010 I bought a pair of Thiel 2 2s that were around 20 years old and cost $1,000. I paired them with a B&K ST202 I had bought used for $300. I don't remember what the disk spinner was. Probably fed a digital signal from a relatively ...
directional speakers This has off axis response graphed. "Despite the significant size, the 30 degree lateral output is almost as good as the on-axis trace, as is the 45 degree response. Only by 60 degrees laterally off-axis does this enclosure begin to become dire...
directional speakers ATC is not directional. They do have very small waveguides but it's a very small mid and they are very wide dispersion. They are very much set and forget, not varying a lot by location.
Do you trust your ears more than measurements? I measured a lot in my younger years. I got the Behringer stuff and did digital eq to get my bass response near perfect. I built tons of bass traps and spent all kinds of time messing around in my basement. I'm glad I did it, I got a little bit...
Bryston BP-17 cubed or Benchmrk LA4 Preamp I've bought preamps twice. Both times I did a bunch of research, obsessed over it for a while, and then decided I didn't believe 98% of what I read and just bought Brystons because I believed they were close to as good as you can get and last for...
Will audio gear be ok in unheated house There are a lot of temperature control products for aquariums/terrariums. I'd look into that. ZOO MED ReptiTemp Digital Reptile Terrarium Thermostat - Chewy.com Amazon.com : Petbank Reptile Heating Pad - Seedling Heat Mat with Digital Thermos...
Why don't they record in ‘surround stereo’? I don't really want surround but I'd definitely be interested in more channels in a semi-circle.
DAC as pre amp I have no problem with people who prefer not to run a preamp if that's what they prefer. A decent preamp introduces negligible distortion, though. The difference may be impedance matching or long cable runs I don't know. It's funny how the anti...
ATC SCM150ASLT He said it was mild and most people wouldn't notice or care if I remember right. More of an academic point than a practical one. If money were no object I'd get a pair of 300 towers. The dynamics on those has to be incredible.
ATC SCM150ASLT I had an exchange with a previous ATC importer (Keogh?) and he told me that the 50 was the most accurate. As woofer size increases the top of the pass band is more directional and results in a less accurate frequency response. He said this wasn'...
If you were serious about sound you would... A huge part of the cost of those speakers is the ability to play incredibly loudly. Nobody needs that at home. The goals of a system like this are a lot different than a normal home stereo application. Linear Peak SPL3: 130 dB with crest ...
DAC as pre amp I resisted buying a preamp for a long time. I eventually did and was surprised how it improved the sound. I don't know why, it made an improvement in definition and/or forcefulness. I didn't spend a ton either. I bought a used Bryston BP25 for... |
