Thiel Owners
I don't know if this is relevant to anyone here but Audio Consultants in Chicago was a Thiel dealer for decades.  They've usually got a few pairs of Thiels on their used list.  Right now 3.5, 2.2 and 2 for sale.

Prof, how much for the drivers?  I've been thinking about that myself as I'd like to keep my 3.7s pretty much forever and I imagine Coherent Source Services won't be around more than 10 years, if that long.  My 2 2s are probably 25 years old and g...

My experience with 3.7s and amps has been that when I got them I had a single Cambridge 840w.  This is rated at 200 watts into 8 ohms, 300 watts into 4 ohms.  It's not a monster amp but not tiny either.  It worked ok but I did blow a midrange, not...

It seems a lot of people have old Classe amps sitting around.  I've got a pair of CA200s from 1996 that haven't been used in 5+ years.  They developed intermittent crackling sounds that I couldn't get fixed.  I replaced them with a pair of Cambrid...

Regarding color, my 3.7s are Morado and I also have an MCS1 in what they call dark cherry.  If there is any difference between these two finishes it's subtle.  When I bought the MCS1 I was hoping it would be a matching center with the 3.7s as fron...
Is Velodyne gone?
I've got a 2006ish Velodyne DD18 that was a floor model at a closing tweeter.  I got it cheap and it's still going strong.  I've heard the bigger ones last longer because the amps are stressed a lot less.  I'll be disappointed if I can't get parts...
Speakers Bought Brand New For The Cost Of A Good Night Out, That "Kick Ass".
Guitar Center often has some nice deals on traded-in studio monitors if you go to the local store (they don't seem to always show up on the online search).I completely agree with this approach.  I would add pawn shops as potential sources of reall...
Yesteryears' expensive speakers compared to modern moderately expensive speakers
There are a number of factors.  It is in the best interest of manufacturers and the industry in general if people think technology is improving a lot.  Otherwise why upgrade?  I think in the cases where companies are coming out with new super-expe...
Who wants the best improvement in their system EVER!
Somebody was drunk or similar, we should let this go.  It's one post, nobody's perfect.

I'm not a circuit designer so I don't know the details either but I've read a number of places over the years that one of the advantages of active designs is that they can actively correct phase so they can remain phase correct with higher than fi...

It seems to me that the eventual future is all digital crossovers and active speakers.  The idea of active crossovers doing the basic separation and then passive components being added to perfect the signal is interesting.  You could have time/pha...
Y No YG ?
It's a cost no object luxury product.  Lots of money is spent on things that don't make it perform better and don't even make it look any better.  It's pure vanity.  You've got something that most people can't afford and that knowledge makes you l...
Your thoughts about ATC loudspeakers
I'm using a Bryston BP25 and benchmark dac1 along with a velodyne dd18.  It's a very unsuperstitious solid state system and I'm not complaining about it at all.  It's exactly what I wanted.  I'm just saying that I think most people like a system t...
Your thoughts about ATC loudspeakers
I wonder if the new tweeter has made a difference in how they sound at lower volumes.  I also wonder if they are voicing their home models more for moderate/low volume listening.  I've got a pair of active 110s that are definitely at their best wh...
Paper Based Speaker Cone Question
Paper can be great.  You should not disqualify a speaker because it has paper drivers.
