Can anyone hear the difference when you add REL subwoofers when playing two channel
I have a pair of VA Mozart Grands I picked up cheap when Best Buy dropped the line a few years ago.  In my experience if you want punchy, powerful sounding bass you need bigger woofers than the Mozarts have.  They play plenty deep but I find them ...
Opinions and recommendations on active loudspeakers
If you want ATCs and are worried about built-in amps you can just order them with the remote amplifier option.  They also sell passive speakers and stand-alone amps, and some active models that come with remote amps standard.  http://atcloudspeake...

@harrylavo, 1000x yes.  I have a similar setup with 2.2s and a Yamaha HT receiver that had a list price around $900 but that I got for about $300.  It is a great little system.  Ridiculously, obscenely good for the money.  If I had found that comb...

bumpin around on youtube, thought this might be of interest. Rob Gillum being interviewed. You don’t have to wonder if he's a believer.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55tQUNsE7GA
Tool fan needs help with speakers (and electronics)
Another brand I've always been curious about but that makes huge speakers that will fill a big room is Tyler.  I assume they're not the last word in refinement but I don't have direct experience.  They sure look fun.http://www.tyleracoustics.com/D...

@kisst_amojan - If he decides to go with Focal I think the SM9 deserves consideration.  Full warranty refurbs are available for $2100 each.  They're best played fairly loudly but I have to think that's the intention.  Performance for the money is ...

If I were looking for a loud rock n roll speaker I'd probably go active.  I actually did go active a few years back when I bought a pair of used ATC 110s for 5k.  That was a rare find but those things will really rock.  Music Direct sells a JBL li...

My 2.2s are used almost exclusively for kids tv shows these days and they're hooked up to a ~$900 Yamaha HT receiver.  I'm surprised at how deep and forceful the bass is even from this very modest power source.  I'm sure there'd be some improvemen...
Is There a Speaker for Me/Impossible Requirements? (budget: $2000)
Another thing you could try is to listen nearfield.  I've found that I prefer nearfield for speakers with higher order crossovers and smaller drivers.  The closer you are, the more direct sound you're getting as opposed to room reflections.  You'l...

I'd buy a pair of Thiel CS 2.2s, 2.3s or 2.4s.  I have the 2.2s and they are phenomenal for what you're describing.  In my experience you don't get good bass quality and satisfying punch from anything less than an 8" woofer.  The 2.3 and 2.4 have ...

A room that is 30' will have a resonance at 37.5 hz I think.  (speed of sound is 1,125 ft/sec, 1,125ft/37.5 = 30 so a 37.5hz wave has length 30')  It might be that by extending your response just a little bit below that of the main speakers you're...

I don't know if I get the time/phase coherence thing or not.  I don't think I could describe it but maybe it's why I find Thiels so relaxing.  When I changed from B&W to Thiel there were some obvious differences that I could describe but also ...

I've got both the 3.7 and 2.2s and I've definitely noticed that the 2.2s have more prominent bass.  I'm not surprised to hear that they have a little more than is completely flat.  It's good quality and very enjoyable.  They were my first Thiels a...

I'm feeling extra lucky to have what I believe are an early pair of 3.7s.  I bought them used in 2012 and the SNs on the boxes were 41 and 42.  Whatever was on the speakers themselves is completely gone.  I just shone a flashlight directly on them...
Who are some of elite sub woofers?
Has anybody tried several smaller subs added to a single bigger, more full-range one?  That seems like it'd likely be best bang for the buck.  You could locate the big one where it does best from 20-35hz and have 3 other subs for a smooth response...
