VTL information @livingwellinco , I have not had this particular model, but have owned a number of the VTL amps. The main power supply filter caps over the years get cooked by the heat from the tubes and transformers. Even if the caps test good, would still sug...
Killer vintage 70's, 80's reel to reel to add to my setup. before you buy any deck, better decide what tape format you are planning on playing. the Technics 1500 and Otari MX 5050 can cover quite a few.
What should I be looking for when buying my 1st Reel To Reel ? @rbtstock before you buy anything you need to figure out what type of tapes you are going to play back. 1/4 track commercially released tapes, 1/2 track tapes, what speed (3 3/4 , 7 1/2, 15. 30), Etc. There are a few decks that will take care o...
Upgrade path question with $2k to spend first thing I would do is upgrade the phono stage.
Vinyl Repair? +1 for @vinylvin comments. Fixing a scratch is not really a fix. Buy another copy.
MM phono preamp upgrade for $1000? its below your budge, but you may want to try the zerozone EAR clone, or the Zerozone Marantz 7 phono stage clone. For MM carts. To beat them you need to get into the 1600 to 2000 range for a Chinook.
Record Cleaning Machines @oldaudiophile before you get too far down the road, you may want to buy a good USB microscope so you can see clearly down into the groove. Once you have that in place you will be able to visually see the differences between clearers as well as he...
Looking for a tube phono pre I have had two chinooks. very reliable, Never had any issues with either. If you can stretch your budget to 3500, would suggest you pick up a used VTL TP 6.5 series 1. Super excellent sounding phono stage.
Turntable parts upgrade @jmphotography , sounds good. nice phono stage. A super simple upgrade is to replace those .47uf wima caps with .47uf nichicon XY series of caps. Parts will cost you about 1.29 each. They are located right next to the opamps at the rear of the uni...
Question on PrimaLuna EVO 400 Amp: Fully Balanced (Differential), or No? while the evo 400s have XLR connectors, they are not fully differential designs. still a traditional design. a pretty easy way to measure it compare the black speaker output terminals reference to ground. if its at same potential cannot be ful...
Snell Type A III vs. Klipsch Cornwall IV I have had quite a few pairs of Snells, including 2 pairs of the A3is. They need TONS of power, the more the better, not sure 200 watts is enough. I ran my last pair with a quad set of JC-1's. They really came to life with the added power. The ot...
48kHz vs 96kHz: audible? yes, significant difference between 48k and 96k, has already been done in studios quite a few times. next level up is 192k, which is slightly better than 96k, but at these 192k sampling rates and higher, you need a master clock to sync the data.
WILSON ORIGINAL SOPHIA'S @golfnutz is correct. Just have to take your time, use no metal tools. When you need a break, take a break. Its not a fast easy process.
Turntable parts upgrade I would consider getting a better phono stage. What you have is nice, but there are some really nice units if you watch for them on the used market.
VTL preamps and amps, co status? @emergingsoul , yes, VTL gear is excellent sounding. Have owned quite a few pieces of it. with regards to service, VTL will service it, but may take a while, much longer than many 'philes are able to handle. Their newest gear, has improvements... |
