Speaker upgrade @helomech, first you have educate yourself as to what the best high quality best performing parts are. Once you comprehend this, and know how to recognize them, then as mentioned before, don't take my word for it, pull the woofer out and take a lo...
Speaker upgrade BTW, don't take my word for it, pull a woofer out and take a look at the quality level of the parts used. Then sum up those costs, not very much considering what the retail cost is.
Speaker upgrade @ronboco , I completely understand. I was in the exact same boat. But before you can determine what is used, you have to understand what good parts are for a crossover first. I have owned the Aviors and have owned several pairs of Wilsons. They al...
Tube preamp options my vote would be for the VTL 6.5. Fully differential and you will get dynamics and imaging like you have not heard before. They are bit pricy new but you can pick up one used for a pretty reasonable sum.
Speaker upgrade +1 for @audioman58 comments. But would expand that to almost all speaker use cheap crossover parts. Unless the OP is an equipment junky and likes change for change, they may want to consider upgrading the crossover parts first in their current spe...
Parasound HCA-1000A Modifications The pots are not the weak point, run the pots wide open and they are mostly out of the circuit. One of the weak points are all of the cheap film caps used through out the amp. The other is the off brand lytics that were used. These amps are old en...
Parasound HCA-1000A Modifications @south43 , was not an amp I did. I did not use solen caps. Have to be careful with the solens, they can end up sounding lean and thin in the midrange.
Best 12AU7 Type Tubes for a Preamp the PSVANE ART-S series are pretty tough to beat sonically. If you are looking for more midrange warmth, the RCA black plates are a great choice.
Looking for a reel to reel deck that plays NAB and IEC EQ tascam 42 and 52, Otari MTR-10, MTR-12 Studer 807
MoFi controversy they could convert back to analogue to edit and eq the file, then when done convert back to DSD. A lot of steps of A to D, D to A to edit then back to A to D. Then D to A again when you cut the lacquer. Each step misses a little bit of info each t...
MoFi controversy agree with @daveyf , digital is easy to edit, but does not have the SQ that all analogue does. DSD must go through several D to D conversions if any editing is done. Don't forget you cannot edit a file in the DSD domain. File has to be converted t...
Phono Preamplifier Redux .. Damn This is Getting Expensive Yes, the series II of the 6.5 is not cheap. But you can pick up a series I for 3-4K. I have both, the series II is better, but the series I is no slouch.
Phono Preamplifier Redux .. Damn This is Getting Expensive @vonhelmholtz that holo audio dac has upped the ante on the analog side of your rig. would agree with your idea to send back the Sutherland. You may want to look for a used VTL TP 6.5. Its the best phono stage I have heard until you get into the B...
Snell type A and Snell type A series III would keep the AIIIs and sell the A's. I used to have two pairs of AIIIi's. really great speaker. But all the Snells needed a ton of power to sound their best. All of them should have the woofer foams looked at. They are all old enough, the foam s...
Help in deciding which tube preamp to replace my old SFL-2 @awise1961 , I used to have a similar system to yours. my vote would be for the 7.5 III or the 6.5 series II. I have 3 of the VTL pres. They are really good. A couple of years ago I went through an eval process, on both preamps and phono stages.... |
