Which used speakers in the 5K range? How about something from Martin Logan? IIRC the woofers are in sealed enclosures and the electrostatic panels are covered by perforated steel grills. Plus you can get some seriously high resolution high end sound from them.

KEF Q 900 ....... Any experience ? Ever since I read TAS's rave review of the KEF Blade, I've been looking around for a lower cost alternative. I think the xQ series would have quieter cabinets, however. For good prices, check out Accessories4less.

Which used speakers in the 5K range? Why do you feel that the Alto Utopias can't be around your kids? They weigh 167 lbs. each and would be very hard to tip. They are also tall enough that smaller kids wouldn't be able to reach the tweeters to poke dents in them (though that changes ...
improving bass on large floorstanders.... Getting your speakers situated and leveled with spikes is essential. You can't hear whatever bass your speakers are capable of without them. Getting the speaker positions balanced between optimum soundstage and just-right room boundary bass reinfo...
Tall Tower Speakers for $10-14k Oh, and how could we forget the Magnepan 20.7? A whopping 6'7" tall for a relatively modest list price of $13,850.
rear firing tweeters.... A common denominator in much of this is design engineer Kevin Voecks, who designed the original Mirage line all the way into the beginning of the M-1 bipolar. Early Voecks designs at Mirage also had rear-firing drivers. Then he moved on to Snell (...
