Xover parts quality,/sound difference? Sure quality parts can be important but the total design is what matters.I do tend to use simple semi 1st order networks with very hi-quality parts in many of my loudspeaker designs also very hi-quality transducers and cabinets. Then like Bobby sai...

Tweeter quest Go with a raven r3 and shit can the rest and start over. This would yield a better sounding loudspeaker than adding a ribbon to a loudspeaker designed for a diferant transducer. Ribbons sound wonderful but system needs to be design as a whole. Not ...
What speaker would you replace magnepan 2.7's with Horns that can run on very low power would be considered hi-eff or high efficiency.Maggies are far from hi-eff;)
What speaker would you replace magnepan 2.7's with I owned 2.7 nice loudspeakers but a bit grainy and hard. YMMV. Why not pick up a used 3.6? If not Hi-eff horns and ribbon systems are what I moved to after my time with maggies, sound labs, ML and a few other electrostatic planar and ribbon system...
Lowther speakers You might want to look into fostex drivers I have used many lowthers and to me fostex makes some drivers that are as good or better for much less cash.YMMV
Speaker Lifespan depends on designs, but I have a 1895 edison horn that still works ;) Caps change values with age, surrounds rot, paper surrounds last a long time but driver cones get brittle with age. I have had more than a few voice coils drive right through pap...
Zu speaker owners - do you have any gain issues? This has never been my findings with hi-eff loudspeakers bet you will have no problems with gain.

HELP Horns, Stats or Conventional Speakers Many theaters use horns, HT is easy for a good loudspeaker to reproduce music is hard to do well.
HELP Horns, Stats or Conventional Speakers Go front horn, I owned stats for years , If you cant fit front horns maybe a back horn or hi-eff ribbon loudspeaker or maybe a Open Baffle. Dr Edgar makes some cool horns or look about audiogon, oris systems might fit your room. |
