Feet f/Arcam FMJ 23T CD player
Yes, they come off pretty easily. I pulled them off my CD23 (non-text version) and replaced them with AudioQuest Bigfeet. I've never tried to put the originals back on, however.. -jz
Sony BDP-S2000ES Blue-ray question
Thanks for the responses. I do not yet own the player so I was not able to look at the owner's manual (did not check online, thanks for the tip). In a perfect world it would seem that the new-gen blue-ray players that advertise internal decoding s...
Current Trends in multi thousand dollar speakers
GregM-"Ultimately, I respectfully submit that:1) choose the speakers by concentrating on timbre, tonality, (and ultimately phase) characteristics in the range down to ~60Hz MAX."You've just described my Hales Revelation Two's to a tee! ;-) I hope ...
concrete slab vs/ wood floor - pros and cons
Yes, I am planning on calling my local contractor, who did a very nice job remodeling our kitchen two years ago (I'm reminded of him every time the HELOC payment is due. LOL!) But I wanted some input from the "Gon before calling him for a bid. The...
concrete slab vs/ wood floor - pros and cons
Hey all, thank you for some great feedback! I honestly did not intend this thread as a joke. What might seem obvious to someone with a background in construction or engineering is a fair question for someone like myself who works in an office cubi...
Best bang-for-buck purchase you have made?
Hmm.. It's probably a tie between my purchase of a minty pair of slightly used floor-demo Hales Revelation Two's (Sapele finish) at near dealer-cost from my local dealer when Hales went out of business, or my score of a vintage Pioneer SX-434 rece...
Best in-ceiling speakers for audio
I'm running a pair of Triad 8" Omnirounds in my 10' by 18' by 8' high kitchen ceiling and they provide nice sound overall. Although they point "straight down", you can pivot the tweeter a few degrees to help with aiming the highs. Triad makes qual...
Does Arcam P25 give enough power for Dynaudio S1.4
The P25 is a very good amp for it's price point, and can hang with quite a few more expensive amps out there, in my opinion. I own the Arcam Alpha 10P (100Wx2 @ 8ohm), which is the predecessor to the P25 and the (current model) P35.I use it to dri...
Remastered DVD in HD
Hi Avraj,The DVD format's spec is based on the NTSC format. Therefore, all source material (be it film or video) is converted to the 480i NTSC video format to be encoded on the DVD during the telecine process. The telecine machine converts the sou...
TOTEM forest SF Bay Area
Pro Home Systems in the East Bay (Oakland and Walnut Creek locations) carry Totem. Call ahead to see if they have that model on display. Ask for Peter if you wish to set up a good time to come in and listen. He's very knowledgable and has a good f...
typical "shelf-life" of phono cartridges?
Hi Nightdoggy - Glad to hear it.. It's been stored indoors away from direct sunlight, etc. and I live in the S.F. Bay Area so it's low humidity, etc. My '92 Toyota Tercel still looks almost new so I guess this is a good area to live for having thi...
Recommendations on movie scenes for subwoofers
Here's my vote for testing sheer bass impact in a movie- After you've dialed in your system with the recommendations above, invite some friends over to watch "The Whale Rider".It's a very good movie and a slightly sad story about a little girl who...
Looking for Integrated Amp to power Hales Rev 3's
I am driving my Rev 2's with an Arcam Alpha 10P power amp with very satisfying results.. If you need an integrated the FMJ A22 or A32 should work fine (same power rating)unless you need head-bangin' concert-level performance in a huge room (The Ar...
Proper approach to Hi End?
As Duke pointed out, your room dimensions indicate a nearly "square" dimension in at least two dimensions which will most likely make it more difficult to achieve a smooth bass response without some treatment. PMI (located in Marin County, CA) man...
buzz from speaker..
one possible cause may be the dustcap. If the glue has failed it may cause a "buzzing" or "farting" sound at certain frequencies. -jz
