how should i move forward...blu-ray etc...?
Original post states Casanova, not Casablanca processor.. Isn't the Casanova model slightly different than the Casablanca on which it's based? Unless I read their website incorrectly, it looked to me like the Casanova has analog ins, "two pair ana...
how should i move forward...blu-ray etc...?
Hello Rich, all this talk on the 'Gon about the new audio codecs really has me in a state of deja' vu. The same sort of thing happened when Dolby Digital and DTS began to replace Pro Logic in the late '90's. Back then, as now, if you had spent goo...

Your RCA will have far better shadow detail and more natural color than a new cheap LCD if it's calibrated properly. That set's a keeper! -jz
Budget Cartridge: Grado Green vs Ortofon 2M Red
Hey Dmm53, is your table P-mount? I'm using a Grado PZTE+1 P-Mount on my 1982 Technics SL5 (I think it's a similar table to yours?) and it sounds very good. Much smoother and more musical than the Audio Technica AT132-EP it replaced. The budget Gr...
where to buy new blank quality cassette tapes?
I think you can still buy TDK Professional SM-60 type II blank tapes at the Guitar Center online store. About $25 for a 10-pack. Not as high-end as TDK's metal formula cassettes of yesteryear, but still much better than Maxell UR's..
Why Not Bring Back Analog, Reel to Reel Tape
Have any of you guys with working R2R decks tried A/B comparing to the audio performance of a good HiFi VHS deck? I've dubbed a few cd's and some 24/96 PCM stereo tracks from concert DVD's to VHS just for fun and the sound quality is pretty awesom...
Best Bookshelf/Monitors Speakers? Suggestions
These are as rare as hen's teeth these days on the 'Gon, but find a good used pair of Hales Revelation One's and place them on a pair of Sanus 22" Ultimate Foundations and you are there. They will serve your music very well, and with your Mac driv...
your reference dvd
I received the new anamorphic DVD re-issue of "Baraka" for Christmas. This version is made from the 8k Ultradigital HD master used for the new Blu-ray disc. It was originally filmed in 2.21:1 70mm. Beautiful DVD transfer! I checked the real-time b...
Any Blu Ray player that will also play SACD's ?
I asked that exact question to a Sony rep via their website live chat feature earlier this week. I really wanted to try their BDP-S2000ES last fall but it lacked DTS-MA so I waited. Then their new 5000ES came out and it will decode all the new cod...
older hi-end tube tv recommendations.....and hdtv.
One more I forgot to mention.. If you don't mind the smaller 30" (widescreen) diagonal size, the HDTV monitor from Princeton Graphics was hard to beat. (I'm not referring to their computer monitors). It was a TV produced in the late '90's and orig...
How can you not have multichannel system
Agree with Dgarretsson. And although running a stereo recording through a surround processor is not the same thing as listening to an actual surround mix on the disc, one of the few processors that gets it right in my experience is Meridian's Tri-...
Subwoofer setting
Thanks for clarifying that, Nsgarch. That's good info to know! -jz
Subwoofer setting
Nsgarch - regarding your suggestion, I've seen this recommended before in print but they never say whether to place the sub on the floor at your listening position or up at ear level. By the same token, do you crawl around the room down low while ...
How can you not have multichannel system
From a practicality standpoint, it's much more difficult to implement now that Blu-ray is out. I've recently noticed much more interest on Audiogon discussions regarding the multichannel analog ins on processors. It seems that many people, myself ...
How can you not have multichannel system
...because the vast majority of music I like to listen to has not been released in surround, or even high-resolution digital (pick your flavor) for that matter. Of course I have surround for movies, but that's a different story. -jz
