Best Spk. Cables for Vandy 2CE I suggest that you not spend a fortune on the cables. I remember that my 3aSigs and my 2C's were much less sensitive to cable quality than my other speakers. I did notice an improvement using biwiresb (and vertial bi-amping as well). The vanderste...
Volksamp I would buy the aleph 3 over the volksamp for the following reason: 1) It's a real Pass Labs product. Pass is well established, and has A++ customer service (thanks peter!), 2) The aleph has a more massive case which implies better vibration contr...
do tubes rock ?? Try an amp with el-34 tubes. I've owned amps with 6550, kt88, and kt99. The el-34 is great for rock. Tube amps in general do not have the authoritative bass of a solid state though. They do get the sound and growl of electric guitars right.
Volksamp I have heard the volksamp 30 at a dealer, and I now own the pass labs aleph 2's. There have the same 'ultra clean' sonic signature. The volksamps are in a conventionally styled case, and have the power switch on the front. They 'might' have balanc...
fm reception I have heard that you can get an FM signal from some CATV services coax cables. Try plugging your coax CATV cable into your receiver and see.
Best DVD player in $500-$1000 Range I just bought a used s7700 for $425. You can internet order them new for $575. It find its movie performance to be quite excellent. It's sound is pretty good for movies, ban d 'just ok' for cd playback. The denon 5000 I had before had better sound...
Add a DAC or buy a new CD player? I agree on the cd player. Whenever I put my cheap cd player into a system, it ruins it. You can just hear it's signature digital harshness through the whole system. I have owned the adcom 750, and I think it's a good player. You can get one for $7...
Best Sounding Portable CD Players??? I used to have an slp1a, and I thought it sounded much better than most portables. I currently have a panasonic sl-870SW (I can actually jog with this player !). It's just OK sonically. I also have the sony d-335, and 465. The 465 does have a digi...
1 million dollar speaker made by Kharma Check out the reviews of it on audio review. Esp the one from truan. Best Buy rules.
McCormack amp upgrade / midbass warmth? I find it hard to believe that a 2700 retail amp can compete with a hot-rod amp that has had 1500 in upgrade parts alone. I talked to steve's technician, and he said I would have higher performance from a hot-rod dna amp. His argument being that t...
Ok, some of you suggested Magnepan 1.6QR I don't want to suggest that the 1.6's sounded bad with the dna. In fact it was quite excellent. It IS a good match! I just noticed that you could hear the tube 'liveness' and the solid state 'deadness' much more so through the 1.6's. I've never h...
Ok, some of you suggested Magnepan 1.6QR I recommend tubes. I drove mine with three amps: The McCormack DNA1, a conrad johnson mv-50 (45 watt tube amp), and a vt100m2. I think the best of the bunch was the vt100 then the mv-50, then the dna. The maggies really seemed to like tubes. The m...
Question from a Poor Pass owner Thanks Peter, and thank for the great accessory recommendation. I am now the proud owner of a Pass Labs Aleph S single ended Reference Spatula, for the discerning hotcake flipper ($499 - a demo). Seriously though, the pancakes do add a little extr...
Question from a Poor Pass owner (three prong timer) that is. I type too fast!
Question from a Poor Pass owner I don't know if a heavy duty three prong current is available, buy you might be able to put one of those on your line. Have it come on an hour before you get home ! I'm think of doing that with my Alephs. Pass states that they are relatively uncar... |
