speaker cables with a warm sound
Analysis oval 9 (very warm), followed by acoustic zen sakura. I have heard the harmonic tech stuff will warm things up a bit too.
Passlabs Aleph 1.2 with CJ Tube 17LS/16LS Preamp
I've tried the kimber 1120 i/c's and they worked just fine. My favorites, of course, are the nordost Red Dawn and SPM. Their inherent quickness and transparency really bring out the pass labs speed. The acoustic zen is a very good speaker cable to...
Proton NT-2760 TV
I chose the sony xbr wega over the proton. I just felt it had the best ntsc picture i had every seen. These are individual choices to be sure - they are both great sets.Get lots of compliments on it. Mine is the older xbr 250 36". The new 400 &...
25 foot bi-wire speaker cables that won't bust the bank?
One of my good friends thinks pretty highly of the LAT speaker cables. Some inexpensive ones I have used and been impressed with are: Kimber (the older, thick brown/black interleaved one - don't know the model number), Analysis plus oval 9, and, f...
Passlabs Aleph 1.2 with CJ Tube 17LS/16LS Preamp
Hey Rayhall,I think we are in complete agreement on the mccormack verses the alephs. I have owned both alephs and the mccormack. My Mccormack was a hotrodded dna reva/partial gold. It was a great amp. I would take it over any amp on the market exc...
Passlabs Aleph 1.2 with CJ Tube 17LS/16LS Preamp
I agree that the 200w aleph 1.2's probably have considerably better bass. I have only used the 100w aleph 2's. They have the same power rating as the 100w stereo aleph 4. My point, and I do have one, is that compared to other 100w amps, the aleph'...
Any speaker cable's sound quality just blown you away?
I disagree with Mr. Campbell. (though I still think he's a great guy). I was actually blown away when I replaced my nordost red dawn/harmonic tech/analysis+ cabling with all nordost quattro-fil i/c's and spm speaker cable. My friend who was there ...
Passlabs Aleph 1.2 with CJ Tube 17LS/16LS Preamp
That may not be the greatest of matches. (this is my meaningless opinion only!) Why ?A) The aleph 2 amps never really seemed to have that much power. Unlike most ss amps, the alephs don't have linear power output respective to load. The aleph 2 pu...
ARC Support
Another thing that really bugs me is their tube prices !From their catalog:VT100, VT100MKII (8) MP6550 (8) 6922 $839.40 Other sources charge under 400 for these SAME tubes. These are bone-stock, modern day svetlana's and sovteks. You can buy them ...
ARC Support
I think they should be willing to do the conversion for you without such trouble. ARC is sometimes a little piggy about these things. With them, I was a little perturbed to find that: A) My local ARC dealer does not stock fuses for their equipment...
Buy a DAC or buy an SACD player?
Has anyone compared these $1000 ish upsampling dacs to one of the moderabuck players such as the marantz sa-1 and sony scd-1 ? I heard the scd-1 lose out to a dcs/elgar with 192 upsampling. Pretty close actually. I bought the scd-1, but I am inter...
"New" Audio Physic Virgo
I read that the new virgo will have a base retail of 5800 and the old virgo will be reduced down to 4500. I would hazard to guess they company will soon remove it from the product line. The old virgo is still one of the best speakers I've ever heard.
need help with virgos
Strangely enough I own the TC-60 and until recently owned virgo's. What you are describing is consistent with my experiences. The virgo's do not have as much body as the tc-60, especially if you have the tc-60's near a wall. One of the virgo's few...
Interconnects for CAL-10
One of my friends who is in the high end industry uses a cl-10, Jadis Orchestra reference and Kimber 1020. He really knows his stuff too.
any one comparing DCS with upsampling to SACD?
I've heard them a/b and I have to agree that SACD is considerably better. SACD reminds me of the 'naturalness' of vinyl in its presentation. In my limited listening, I didn't detect any 'thinness'. The DCS actually seemed to create a more localize...
