Bel Canto DAC-1: Transport? Cable?
The Pioneer DVD525 and 414 with toslink cables are or were recommended by Bel Canto as cost effective transports. If you are playing DVD's, CDR's or intend to play 24/96K discs, then you would obviously need to use a DVD player that outputs 24/96 ...
Question for DACs
The Bel Canto Dac 1 is an upsamlling dac and would probably work well with your DVD player, particularly its toslink output. It should give you a significant improvement. Unfortunately, the Bel Canto lists for $1,295 but is available used for $900...
Best "warm" receiver for MA Silver 9i's?
I own a pair of Monitor 2.5 speakers which I use in a second system with a NAD receiver and MIT Terminator 5 speaker cables. The sound is warm and smooth. I have heard the Silver 9's and found them to be among the best imaging and revealing speake...
Top Ten Tube Amps of All Time?
My personal favorites are the Audio Research D115 and the Quicksilver Monoblocks.

The Bang & Olufsun is the only thing I can think of that would fit your criteria. I have never seen anything else quite like it. All of the other linear tracking tables I have seen look more like industrial grade products.
Nakamichi Dragons worth the fix?
I sold my Nak dragon around 3 years ago as I found it seemed to have some difficulties with certain tapes. Some of those tapes (Sony Metal) are no longer available so that may not be a problem. I replaced the Nak with a $300 Denon single well, 3 h...
Attention Audio Veterans
I remember that Bang & Olufsen, Mitsubishi, Sony and Yamaha made one at one time in the late 70's. I am sorry but I do not recall the exact model numbers.
Vinyl vs. CD
I am going to sell my Oracle Turntable and all of my records. The table is an original Delphi and has been upgraded to a Mark II. In addition it has a custom made power supply and a custom made armboard. The arm is Syrinx PU-2. It sounds good, muc...
Lat International cables
I have tried their IC 100, their digital cable and their low priced interconnect. They have a revealing, up front sound which will work great with certain systems and certain tastes. I think their digital cable was the best of the 3 mentioned abov...
CD Transport
I posted a reply to a similiar request last night so you may want to try and find it. I listed several transports I had tried, all of which sell for less than $1,000. My personal favorite is the Parasound CDT 2000 which I purchased new for less th...
digital cables
I think the biggest advances have been in toslink cables which have gone from awful to acceptable due to changes in connectors. If you have the old MIT adjustable cable you may want to experiment with some different cables. There are certainly som...
What is the best transport up 1k-used?
I have not heard the Theta Pearl, but I have heard an older Theta Data Basic and it sounds great. A friend of mine bought it after auditioning several transports at home. I have tried several lower priced transports and this is what I have found (...
Audible Hum
I had the same problem with different components, but the fix was the same. I put a cheater plug on my preamp and my system has not had any hum problems since.
Preamp new/used under $900
A Classe Audio Model Four would probably work well with your Classe Amp. The Model Four is a little more revealing and neutral than the DR-4. These are well made units and should be available on the used market in your price range.
Vintage Receivers vs. Modern MidFi
If you're going to go for a used Advent, I recommend trying before buying. I have a 15 year old one that I use in a 3rd system. As time has passed, the tuner section has had more of a tendency to drift and it takes about an hour of warm up for the...
