Is the Monarchy DIP effective?
While I have not tried a Monarchy DIP, I have used either an Audio Alchemy DTI, DTI 2.0 or DTI Pro for several years. All of them effected some level of improvement in clarity, bass response and tonal balance. They also seem to reduce the level of...
Upsampling/Advice on Transport
The Radio Shack cd player that Sam Tellig used is an unusual product (for Radio Shack and the price) that used a cd-rom drive and is no longer available. It is not indicative of "consumer grade" cd players as a transport but will not outperform a ...
Really need a DAC w/ a great CD player
If you're just starting out or looking to upgrade from a low cost cd player, then I think the transport and dac route is the way to go. It gives you more opportunities in the future to upgrade as technology evolves and/or prices go down. Also, the...
Aiwa XC-35M good transport? Entec245.2?
I recently purchased the Aiwa XC37M for $90 to add multi-disc capability to my system. I am using a Monster lightspeed toslink to a Audio Alchemy DTI Pro to a Bel Canto Dac. I also have a Parasound CDT 2000, Marantz CD94 and Radio Shack 3400 which...
Cheap system for garage
An alternative to a boombox would be small, metal radioshack speakers, any ol' receiver or integrated amp and a portable cd player that has a line output, that he could move indoors when the weather was real cold. You could hang the speakers on a ...
Audiosource/Tripath based Digital Amps
MGS,The Bel Canto amp mentioned above uses it. It has gotten a rave review. I have also read a post on another site where someone had built their own amp from the tripath module. Have also read that EVS is planning on releasing a tripath based amp...

Audiosource/Tripath based Digital Amps
Hello MGS, Your opinion of their "non-tripath" amps is consistent with other user reviews that I have read. In part, because of this, I am curious as to what the tripath based amps sound like. BTW, they are stereo amps, the 6.2 and 6.3 have balanc...
Red Rose or Audio Prism?
I wear reading glasses and laser surgery won't help. However, I just bought an entry level home theater system for my basement (with 5 speakers) and was wondering what wisdom I must have missed, as the surround systems I have heard seem to sound f...
Red Rose or Audio Prism?
Why would you want to change your video setup from 5.1 to 2 channels?
Are you Guys Rich or What!?
It's not always how much you spend, but how you spend it that counts. By paying proper attention to component interface and balancing out the strengths of one component against another, I believe it is possible to assemble a system where the sum o...
the best CD player under $1k?
The only one 2 I have heard that are worth it are the Rega Planet and the Rotel. However, the Rega was no better than a Micromega dac that I bought used for $300. As an alternative to spending $1000 on a 1 box player I would consider getting an Ai...
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
I still occaisionally use the Flight of the Cosmic Hippo to show off my system. It's a lot of fun to listen to.
Best speaker for a 40 watt tube amp
I have heard the Vandersteen Model 1's sound good with a 30 watt Berning EA-230 and the Quiksilver GLA. Although they are a low cost speaker, using a good tube amp "wakes them" up a bit.
