Denon's DVD5000 is a GREAT cd player and can be found under$500.00 used. It won't read CDR's though. $2500.00 when new.Joe 
New Snells vs Old Snells
I think the B&W Nat. 802's are a good replacement for the B's. A smaller footprint with a full sound, Also, they don't require the expensive cabling as did the B's. MHOJoe

New Vinyl Playback Technology
I have a CD from this company. It compares the originalLP, scratchy and all, to the same but played on the laserturntable. I was not impressed with it. There wasn't a drastic difference. Maybe a little cleaned up but not sounding like the original... 
McCormack DNA-225 vs. Threshold T800D
I owned a T800. Super sound. It's a quirky amp though. TheT series is prone to breaking down. I owned a T400 and T2 new. BOTH pieces had to go back three times each for service! I had a T800 and I loved the sound but sold it for fear of it breakin... 
Worried about my Sony SCD-1
I have the 777 and no problems. And hey, it's a Sony!The bigger worry with any high end equipment is not ifit breaks but rather WILL the company be in business whenyou need them to fix it! Joe

Reasonable preamps with phono stage
Between a friend and myself, we've owned 4 difference versions of the Audible Illusions M3 and M3A. I paid from $600.00 for basic M3 up to $1200.00 for M3A/gold card. I bought the cheapest version just for giggles, not expecting it to out perform ...
