Sellers Beware!!!
I still haven't heard the bottom line here. I too have sold overseas with some crazy results. I want to honor whoever wants to buy but also protect myself on all fronts. This means that as the seller I need to understand ALL the rules in the chain...
what pre-amps to try
I'm in love with my Classe CP700. What I like is A LOT of detail over many pre's I've tried and it's very versatile ( Two sets of balanced outputs as well as two sets of RCA outputs) Also, mine has a very nice internal phono stage that is no slouc...
Is the main reason audio equipment depreciates so much is
A case in point; Me. I bought Snell Type B's in 1994. I spent a lot of time with them. TONS of time experimenting with them. My ears became trained to their sound. I know them as well as anyone. I've been smitten ever since with them. It's 20 year...
ENTIRE SYSTEM NEEDED TO SELL
Kudos to all my fellow Audiogoners for their excellent advice. It's nice to be a part of a group of fine moral people. Some of the advice above sounds overwhelming for a lady who wants to sell a stereo system. One knowledgeable person helping this...
Best speakers for $3000
A lot of responses here! I'll add one more: Snell Type B or C5. What is important to keep in mind is that you really need to work with the speakers to find out what they like. I spoke with one guy who said he took the speakers out of the box, didn...
When is your Hifi good enough?
When the speakers disappear and I get goosebumps. Joe
How to best ship big & heavy speakers internationally?
One more serious concern; Even if you play by all the rules and something goes wrong, YOU can still be left with a mess on your hands. I shipped a new in box heater to a guy in Oregon ( I'm in Pennsylvania). FedEx damaged the outside of the box an...
How to best ship big & heavy speakers internationally?
The responsibility is ALL YOURS until they arrive safe at the destination. I've had this out in the past with sellers who didn't understand the rules. It is necessary to meet the requirements of all parties involved. Overseas is especially tricky....
Reel to Reel uses -
Great topic! I'm an open reel fan and I've also owned many great decks.I actually owned three (yes three!) Sony TC 880-2 machines. I sold all of them to my regret. I have a lot of studio tapes I can only hope I can get to dub over to CDR before th...
I find this so strange
This is the nature of SO many companies in this business. It's my biggest complaint. I follow a company and their products only to see them bought out or the owner dies and the company goes down hill. So sad.
record storage question
No, The LP's would be inside the house. The other side of the wall is outside. Joe
Solid State Amplifier Advancements In A Decade
In terms of sonic improvements; nothing what so ever. I had a Threshold T400 in 1995. It sounded magnificent! I haven't heard anything surpass it yet. Joe
why do people feel the need to buy expensive cable
If anyone uses or tries different cabling in their system and can't hear a difference, I believe they have a non synergistic play back system and are at a loss to experience what a live realistic sound can be had
Is no preamp really better that a good preamp?
Like many people, I tried to save money and eliminate the preamp. If you're happy with what you hear without it, then good for you. Ultimately I opted for a preamp. I can't remember which Sterophile writer said that "the preamplifier is the beatin...
Bose 901's with "highend ancillaries"??
My first speakers were Bose 901 Series 2. I liked them very much. I never paired them with anything more than a Pioneer receiver and 16 gauge speaker wire. I was happy. That is the bottom line isn't it? This high end hobby drives all of us crazy. ...
