Upgrade my Sonic Frontiers Line-2, or buy a used solid state Pre?
@knghifi , I'll just agree to disagree on the "dry and sterile" comment. As for you recommendations, while they may be very good preamps, I don't believe that any of them are solid state preamps, which is what the OP specifically stated he was look...
Considering Wilson or Sonus Faber floor standing over my Rockport monitors & Wisdom Sub
Whoa Mark, you are really all over the map here. In the last 5 days you have asked about changing your amplifier, and then phono stage to help try and solve a noise/gain issues. And now you're looking at changing speakers.I think you would be best...
Upgrade my Sonic Frontiers Line-2, or buy a used solid state Pre?
adg101, I’ll throw my VAC amp up against much more expensive SS amps any day. You don’t have to sell me on tube gear, I’m using tube phono, tube preamp and tube amplifier. So yes, I love tubes. That said, there are some decent SS amps out there, an...
Upgrade my Sonic Frontiers Line-2, or buy a used solid state Pre?
Well I’ll offer a different view. I’ve never been a fan of Sonic Frontiers gear, and it’s hard for me to believe. On paper, they look to be wonderfully built units, but any SF preamp, amp or DAC that I’ve heard has been very dry and sterile soundi...
Marantz
The SA-11S3 has a USB input, which is a Marantz first, and may offer a link to computer audio.BTW, love the moniker giantsalami.
Bryston vs Modwright?
Clayton Audio is a good recommendation, but I don't know if 50 wpc will be enough to drive those speakers.I'd look into a Wells Audio Akasha, or a Innamorata if you can swing it.I would go with the Modwright if only using your two choices. The Bry...
how much better is the kuzma 4 point then my TTW Jelco
It all depends on your personal definition of "HUGE difference".
Which CD\SACD?
I have heard several Esoteric models, and none of them have induced me to buy one. None of the Esoteric units I heard sounds anything like what the OP is asking about. Rich sound and musicality are not words that I associate with Esoteric players....
Parasound Halo JC 3 vs Whest PS .30R for the Lyra Delos
+1 onhwy61. No sense panicking and buying more gear before you get to the root cause of the problem. Unless you are just planning to throw out your old Whest and Delos. You can't really sell damaged goods, so you might as well make sure that they ...
Second audio system in your house?
I guess I am in the minority here. I basically have one audiophile system.I do have another system in the basement, but basically older classic gear. Think Pioneer, Akai, JBL, etc. I haven’t been down there listening to it in years (maybe over a d...
I need advice on which speaker
Hell, I'll throw another one at you that's not on your list. A shout out for my Reference 3A Grand Veenas. Especially the older model with the Murata Super Tweeter and soft dome tweeter. Very extended, yet never harsh or bright. I see a used pair ...
Newbee help- Volume low even at full preamp volume-???
Bad news: Sorry, I have no experience with the 6GH8 tube.Good news: However, a quick web search shows that they appear to be inexpensive to replace. Lots cheaper than the 12AU7 or 12AX7!
Need help and advice on a VPI 3D arm
Have not mounted a cart on it yet because the Soundsmith knurled mounting screws that I used with the XYZ Universe are not long enough now that the arm is much thicker at the mount.I experienced the same issue, though not with Soundsmith mounti...
Is there Really a difference between a Krell 400xi intergrated amp and the newer Vandgard?
I know that herndonb indicated that the Vanguard "wallops them all".  Perhaps is does wallop the 300i and the 400xi! Does it wallop the FBI?  Absolutely not.You have to take any dealer's word with a large grain of salt. ;^)
Newbee help- Volume low even at full preamp volume-???
It sounds like you have narrowed it down to bad tubes, since all connections seem to be correct.Asking for tube recommendations can be tricky, as we don't know your budget or personal tastes.Choosing tubes can be subjective, just like choosing cab...
