Pass amp vs McCormack with Silver/Gold upgrades... 07-11-12: River251...the problem with college is you choose a path when you are too young to realize how important money is going to be once you can't call up your parents in an emergency....:-) Haha, ain't that the truth. I have 3 sons, 2 are out...
JMW 10.5 tonearm cartridge recommendation I believe that I recall reading that VPI recommends cartridges weighing more than 7 grams and with compliance greater than 10. I think Dynavector's, Lyra's and Sumiko's are popular with VPI tables/arms. I'm running a Sumiko Blackbird with my Scout...
Pass amp vs McCormack with Silver/Gold upgrades... Really? 100K? I always thought that McCormack's were around 10K and Pass around 20K. If your CJ is 200 ohms, you shouldn't have a problem, even with 10K. However, I think you are looking for something with more resolution than CJ.I've heard the B&...
PARTS CONNEXION + CARY PH-302 = AUDIO NIRVANA Chris does great work!! I've been using a Marantz SA-11S1 that he performed his "Ultimate Tube Mod" for about 5 years now. It has consistently beaten more expensive stock CDP's that I've had the pleasure of putting it up against. VIVE LA PARTS CON...
Pass amp vs McCormack with Silver/Gold upgrades... Jim,There seems to be a general rule of thumb here on the boards that a 10:1 ratio of amp to preamp is sufficient. That means that a preamp with a output impedence of 600 ohms should be fine with any amp with an input impedence of 6Kohm or higher....
B&W 804s too bright I'm not familiar with your components or cables. I would suggest trying a tube integrated amp to replace the Marantz/Emotiva, maybe a Cary SLI-80. Generally, it the lower price ranges integrated amps are the way to go. For cables, Cardas has alway...
Interesting Ads Yeah, quite the story. I almost bought a turntable once from a guy who claimed that he started The Absolute Sound and got HP up and running. In the end I didn't, because I thought his asking price was too high and I didn't want to 'insult' him by n...
B&W 804s too bright Sell the B&W's and get warmer speakers or keep the B&W's and get warmer electronics and cables.
What's up with that? Mitch2, this isn't just about contacting people about ads. I don't even look at the ads anymore (too much temptation :)). I remember being able to take a discussion offline with a member, to go into more details or to warn them of other's agendas ...
What Power Cord can improve clarity and bass slam? Well, the only one of those that I've owned was the Tel Wire, and it was pretty good, but nothing special, IMHO. My favorite power cord that I've ever used was a Stealth Dream, however, for some reason I never had much success with the Dream on a ...
Abbingdon music research AMR cd-77 is how good? To be honest Dvdgreco, the CD-77 is a very nice CDP, but I've never owned one. I've heard it on several occasions, but I don't know if I've heard the 77.1 upgrade or not. I've never considered spending that much $$$ on a CDP, as I am an analog fir...
Pass amp vs McCormack with Silver/Gold upgrades... Interesting. ProAc's are very nice speakers and your amp and preamp are legendary products. I would think the CJ is more of your problem than the amp though. CJ are known to be very musical and warm, but so are ProAc speakers and your Marantz amp....
Stereo preamp upgrade Look for an older Audible Illusions, like a 2B or 2D or something. You should be able to get one in your price range, and musically, I don't think you can do much better.
Pass amp vs McCormack with Silver/Gold upgrades... Hey Jim, good luck, I hope that someone can answer your question. I looked on Ebay and I didn't see any pair of Pass amps listed, are they gone? All I see is a XA 30.5, which is a stero amp for $3680.I'm curious as to how you've narrowed it down t...
What's up with ads for $70,000 speakers selling LOL! Bill, c'mon, you shouldn't need AudiogoN to point out such an obvious scam. In case you missed the memo, Audiogon has changed. There's no turning back now...full speed ahead (reverse?). |
