Marantz SA-14S1 or Vinvent CD-S7-DAC
Well you probably already know that I would lean towards the Marantz for two reasons. First of all, I have heard Marantz CDP's, owning a SA-11S1, and I like them quite a bit. I sold a couple of more expensive CDP's when I bought my Marantz SA-11S1...
Music Culture mc 501A Dual CD and USB player
Larry, try to contact Audiogon member Iblieve, he has extensive experience with the whole Music Culture line, I think he owns most of their gear, and he speaks very highly of it.
R.I.P. Brent Rainwater a.k.a.
Brent is a tragic loss felt by many members of the Audiogon community. There was a post a few days ago breaking the horrible news here.I didn't realize that he was so young though. Once again, my condolences to his family.
Second Cartridge With Transfiguration Phoenix
Here is some more information on the UNIverse II from the Sorasound website. I believe the UNIverse II is specifically designed for the North American market, of which Sorasound is the distributor.
Second Cartridge With Transfiguration Phoenix
If you really like the Phoenix, and it is a great cartridge, why not consider Transfiguration's new Proteus?I don't know what your budget is, but another cartridge to consider is the ZYX UNIverse II X-SB?
Looking for a Juicy Music Peach II
I see that you haven't placed an ad in the wanted section. You may want to start there.
'80s vinyl sound like CDs?
Mike, I concur with your experiences with Nordost, having owned the Valhalla and Heimdall cables and Valhalla and Brahma cords. They are definitely not neutral, though folks who do not know the true meaning of the word neutral insist that they are...
Sweet spot in the Shunyata power cords line up ?
11-04-13: Stereo5I don't know what "Gbmcleod" is thinking, but I hear great differences with the lower priced Shunyata cords. Personally, I wouldn't spend more than 500.00 on a power cord.It sounds as if you do not have the experience of Gbmcleod,...
Loss of a good man, friend, audiophile Rainwater
I only "knew" him through his always interesting posts on Audiogon as "Brainwater". May he rest in peace, and my deepest condolences to his family.
Soliloquy 6.3 amp?
They are an easy load to drive, your 55 wpc Yamaha should work fine.
'80s vinyl sound like CDs?
I believe a lot of it was because of digital mixing and mastering at the time. As you have stated, digital has come a long way in the last couple of decades, and today's digitally recorded vinyl sounds much better. I notice that many CD's AND LP's...

Objective vs. Placebo relating to system changes
You do enjoy stirring the pot, don't you?
Digital Source with Tube Amplification
10-31-13: MceljoJmcgrogan2 does bring up an interesting point that a digitally mastered LP isn't superior to the CD. I have a coworker that strongly prefers vinyl, but says he can't really tell a difference between a digitally mastered LP and the ...
Digital Source with Tube Amplification
I'll play this rhetorical game. Of course I must begin with a caveat, ;), the recording must be of analog recording and analog mixing, because I would rather listen to a AAD CD than a digitally mastered LP.So assuming that these recording paramete...
